Team California Demarini Falling Apart?

by neighborsherry » Fri Sep 30, 2011 8:25 am

All the usual crap-stirring gossip on HB aside, the only thing negative I have heard was that the coaching staff did not get the exact roster they wanted, i.e. the 12 best players from tryouts. I don't know that they would ever make that public, but there seems to be some evidence to support that assertion. I don't want to come across as picking on the players, though. Fact remains, if they're keeping the team together, then no matter who the sponsor is, then everything is ok.

Is it true that the team took a beating last weekend from the only real competition they've seen this fall??

Nor Cal is becoming boring. Every last parent I heard that was going to tryouts for Demarini were going because they saw that it was free to play. Very simple. If you have a kid and you have ANY idea on the costs , especially at the older divisions with a lot more travel involved then you know that probably 98% of the kids were trying out to see if they can play for free. Free always means more BS, and maybe that is the case here and the eventual split. Who knows? I just know that when someone tells me free, I know somewhere down the road its going to come back and bite me. If there is one thing I've learned from our softball journey is that there is no easy way around it, its going to cost your family alot of time, headache and money. Just hope the end result is all worth it and your DD still wants a relationship with you :D If that happens it can be very rewarding.

Regarding the coaches getting the 12 best players from the Try Out? I'm pretty sure with 1 or 2 exceptions everyone they made an offer to jumped on it, The girls i have seen on this team are all very good athletes and "most" came from other top teams in the area, the biggest thing i have noticed is the majority of young ladies on the squad have the fire and desire to play hard, practice hard and the want that is required to learn and improve. These coaches are very calm and train the girls very hard. As far as the org falling apart- all teams will remain intact, one sponsor pulled out, "no big deal" so they need to sell some candy or car wash, we have all been there, Demarini is still on board and that is a big help etc as rumor has it they have been pretty good to the teams thus far, these coaches have more contacts in their pocket than any of us other coaches and i'm sure are working out some bugs as we all chat about this. I look forward to Spring and wish all the young ladies on all of the Nor Cali teams the best of luck.

They are sitting at 11-1 and yes they have played some week teams and beat some good teams, the one loss they have taken was to an ok 14u team playing down, They have pulled out wins over both RR Gold 12u teams, Grapes, Mizuno Garcia, and a few more in the area, I'm sure as with any teams they will win some and lose some. That being said i'm very please to see how well all of the girls play together and how well the parents get along and that is rare this day and age.

I agree with a lot of what your saying, Free is a term used lightly. And girls softball should not be as stressful as many make it, people have to remember why we are here. Make it a great weekend everyone.

That can be said about every team. EVERY kid that I have ever been involved with had all that you mentioned above.... it is just that in many cases, the coaches of young players dont know how to pull that desire and effort out of the young player.

All of the kids playing this game are good kids and will run through a wall.... if they have the right people helping them. This team is no different than many others in that category.

Good luck with that. You might make it as far as Modesto. Most competitive organizations (multiple teams) in Norcal run budgets between $75-$100k or more a year. Bigger org's with multiple teams in each age group are much higher.

It will all work out, who you know helps more times than not, but you are correct it is a costly sport. I'm sure they will be just fine.

Great lesson to be learned here.... SPONSOR BALL trumps DADDY BALL When your major supporters kid is on the team better make sure she gets playing time or you might have to start selling Candy Bars and doing Car Washes!!! My only question is how many cars do you have to wash and what do you have to put in the candy bars your selling to make enough $$$$ to pay that coaching staff????

Only negative thought I had watching the team for the first time was towards the ASS HAT with the Radio. Turn the frickin thing down and grow up. I know most teams bring a radio for warm ups however do you have to look like the Jack Ass at the stoplight with the 22's on his Buick disrupting every ones day with what you think is cool. Then again if that was you Buick with the 22's in the parking lot never mind you wont get it!!!

Teach your girls to respect the teams they are playing and the teams that are on the field during you warm ups. Most of all Teach your girls to respect the game!!! It's A$$holes like you that will make tournament director's tell teams no more Radio's

But if the sponsor was just the charity, why would the charity care who was on the field playing? You're making it sound like the contribution was only to benefit one player.
