Pitching speeds

by bring'nheat » Wed Nov 25, 2009 9:15 am

Can anyone help? Curious to find out what pitching speeds would be found at ASA tournaments. 12u, 14u, & 16u.

Hello. In our experience average 12U pitching is low 50s (52-54). We have one pitcher on our team that has hit 60, another that consistently hits 55 to 57..

You can't really get an accurate read on the 16's this year. They are moving back to 43, so in some cases, you will have second year 14u pitchers throwing from 43. It will be much slower than usual.

I don't see a consistant game speed AVERAGE of 52-54 in 12U. Maybe if you are speaking of the average of P1s on the top teams, I will accept that. You are talking about GAME speed, not a dad saying his DD can through 60 at 12U in the dirt. :?

I figured there would be the "60mph" claims, there always is...

I think more realistic speeds are:

12u - socal: average speeds is 48-52, very rarely a little higher.
Yes, once in a blue moon, there is a kid that can bring it.

14u - 50 to 56, occassionally a kid will hit 60, but very, very rarely.

16u - see sftbll4ever's post.

Forgive me for repeating myself, but I like to compare the claims of a kid's speed and the actual speed to your gross wage and your net wage after taxes on your paycheck...

I'm sorry, but if a 12u team has 2 kids hitting near 60, they will walk away with the national championship.

So many times I hear the "this kid throws 60's" claim, and then I see the kid and it's the usual, mid fifties.
Ok, so maybe a kid hit 58 one time on a windy day running up to the mound and letting it rip....but that's not reality...

flame away...

speed is speed, distance is distance, one does not affect the other.

Our coaches have clocked our girls in game situations and those are our ranges. I can't speak to any other teams.
