What team for a 13yr old in Nor Cal

by BallBallBall » Thu Nov 18, 2010 1:29 pm

This is my 1st post. What would be a good team for my dd in Nor Cal? We are looking for playing opportunity, but, at the same time looking for a coach with knowledge, who really knows what they are talking about! She is 1st yr 14's. Looking for a team where she will become a better player. There are many teams out there but looking for the one that will make a difference by coaching their team to be the best!

There are alot of teams here in Norcal. If you let the board know how much experience your dd has in TB or rec and what part of Norcal your from. Just a suggestion to get you started. If your dd has the goods and played TB then take a look at the 14u rankings..and google those teams/organizations. The lower you go in rankings then the less difficult it is to latch onto that team. You can also go on USSSA.com and search out 14u tourneys of the past and look for those teams as well. Usually middle of pack teams play them with elite teams playing them if they want to move up in age and test the waters. You can do the same on dfsoftball.com. Same applies. Lots of choices for your dd's level of play. Good Luck.

We justed moved to Lodi north of Stockton. My dd is a very good utility player has played travel since 9 yrs old. Most comfortable at 1.short stop, 2.center, 3.catcher. Watched a couple tournaments. Some good teams but not impressed with coaching at least what I seen. Wanted to see if anyone knew of a team that would give opportunity to earn a position with good coaching?? what teams are filled and who is looking?? please respond without being mean, would like honest opinions! and yes I see all the postings. But does anyone have more info on certain teams???

since this is try-outs season, you ought to go to their tryouts and check them out yourself.

Now this answer could either make you or break your credibility here  Not being mean, just hoping you put thought into your answer before the SHARKS come out to play with you..

BBB..
Look into the well established programs in your area.

Grapes
RR
AASA

I would think this is a good place to start.
Good Luck!

BBB,
Just wanted to wish you good luck in your quest to find a team for your daughter. There are several teams spread throughout the NorCal area. A previous post stated to seek out the top ranked teams & organizations. While that is a good start, I would highly recommend you do some research on organizations, the coaching staff, etc. Some coaches move age groups with their team, while others stay at a specific age group (for several reasons). Fall is usually a time where players and parents "test the waters" on teams; to determine whether it's the right fit for them. I would definitely look at other posts for NorCal and what teams are having tryouts.
Tryouts should help give you a better idea of the organizations ability to draw players (quality players), gives you just a small taste of coaches personalities and temperments. If your daughter has a strong personality, a "yeller coach" isn't going to put her in the tank. Some coaches are quiet, but are effective. If your daughter has been playing for quite some time, I am sure you have a pretty good idea of the type of coach you are looking for.

Teams:
Lady Magic - Elk Grove / Sacramento
Grapettes - Stockton
R & R - Stockton
AASA - Tracy
OBS- Oakdale / Modesto
Sorcerers - depends upon coach
Breeze - Sacramento

These are some of the most recognizable NorCal teams. Good Luck! Hope to you find a spring / summer team!

We have players on the 16u for OBS Monarchs team right now that drive from Reno, Hollister, Elk Grove, Grass Valley, Oakley, Antioch and a few other places to play for us. They must feel there is a reason to do so.

I will be coaching at the 14u level from Jan-May. I think players learn quite a bit that play for us.
