***NEW TOURNAMENT OPTION FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND***

by fastpitchmom55 » Sat Dec 18, 2010 10:08 am

So excited when I heard the news that NorCal will have another Tournament option for Memorial Day Weekend. Gary Ybarra (asatournaments.com), along with Angelo (Capitol Sports Association) and GSSA will be putting on a NEW Memorial Day Classic Tournament! Finally another option besides the RR Gold Tournament! And it's NOT showcase format for the 16U and 18U teams!

You can check out more information here:

Im not quite as excited as you are with the big font that you used, but it would be nice to see a big turnout for this one. Anyone who doesnt remember how poorly ran this tournament was last year (granted, a ton of teams and I know that is tough) but more importantly how extremely bad the umpiring was, will possibly move over to this tourney. Again, I know they had a ton of teams but the umpiring was below even common sense type of calls/plays. When you have people straight off the street seemingly who was given a crash course on rules, it just gets ugly. This isnt just one team I saw, this was going on all weekend on just about EVERY field. Ok, I'm off my soapbox.....

Yes, I agree! After playing in the RR Gold Memorial Tournament for the last 5 years, I was happy to see another option! Gary runs great tourneys with NO GATE FEE and you can bring in all the outside food and drinks you want! This saves our parents money, especially on a 3 day tournament! Teams are already signing up, so it's looking like others teams are feeling the same way!

LADY MAGIC is pleased to be co-sponsoring this tournament with Gary, GSSA and the BREEZE, and will have all teams participating.

Haze. I was speaking on the RR one, ASA one is new. No relation to Gary whatsoever , although I think he is a good guy and handles his business, unlike a few other TD's in the area. Very nice to hear Magic is in. Ask and ye shall receive. This had to be done and I now applaud Breeze and Magic for stepping up. Still a long way to go but its a great start with breeze, magic and mizuno with their teams in. Good ole fashioned competition, should make EVERYONE better, including the TD's :D

Lady Magic is playing in this tournament in response to a request from Cassi and GSSA to support our home association. We are pleased and excited to do so, but this should not be considered protest against any other TD's or organizations. As president of Lady Magic, I can tell you we look forward to our continued association with those organizations.

NO definately not in protest. This movement is about competition, which is good! If the market is cornered , then we as coaches, players, and parents have no say in what goes on. Competition generally improves things ACROSS the board with all parties involved. Thats why I'm trying to keep this post going! This is in no way protest to RR , its just that when something is ran poorly or you dont like the way things are heading, somebody has to change it. BUT we all must embrace the change and support the change. Otherwise in 2 or 3 years it will fold up and go back to the same ol same ol. ;)
I dont like a lot of things about ASA national tourneys, but GSSA does a great job with their tourneys, and so this is a win win for everyone. You can bet it will be ran well.

Lady Magic in, which other orgs are on board?
I would love to go to Sac instead of Stockton this time of the year...
