Metro/Association Tournaments

by Wilson Bats » Wed Jun 15, 2011 1:02 pm

As I looked through all the ASA Association web site it looks as if Nor Cal and Sacramento have the most teams with alot of good softball to be played this weekend. Norcal has 78 (4 10U - 15 12U - 31 14U - 20 16U - 8 18U) teams playing in their Association and GSSA has 64 (9 10U -15 12U - 15 14U - 17 16U - 8 18U) teams playing in Sacramento. How about all of us give our thoughts and updates to all the Association Tournaments. The Stockton Association has just 15 ( 1 10U - 3 12U - 6 14U - 3 16U - 3 18U) teams for all age brackets. Why? The Cen Cal Association hasn"t posted any info on their association as of today. Lets hear from all!!!

It really is sad that an Assoc only has 15 teams in five age groups. Its actually embarrassing to say the least

Doesn't make sense to me. I'm curious if someone can make sense out of the number of teams in each association vs the number participating in metros?

money, money, money. Teams that have no intention of spending the serious cash it takes to attend an ASA nationals across the country have decided they aint going even if they qualified. So if the berth doesnt matter, why play?

Economy? Maybe teams decided they can't afford to spend the kind of money it takes to travel?
Premier, "Gold", for the upper divisions?
Are there more IFA, nsa or usssa teams in their area?
or the gate fee's,crappy fields and can't bring in food? just kidding!

Money, that makes sense.... Speaking of money, it looks like 12u will be going for broke in Sac. What a tough lineup of teams. Good thing there's two berths.

A two game guarantee for a club that is average or below average isn't all that great of a deal. What I don't get is that the teams that play in metros qualify for Western Nationals. The 14's will be in Roseville, Ca so for most that isn't a long expensive trip. Maybe that's why the numbers are higher in this case for 14s?

It looks to me that the Western Nationals are more attractive then ASA Nationals. 10U & 12U in Fort Collins,CO,14U in Sacramento,16U in Washington, and 18U in Oregon. Have heard that Greater Sac Joaquin ASA is having major issues and there maybe some changes that could be one reason why they have lower amount of teams. You know with all the IFA (Bob) tournaments and the Grapettes hosting the Preimier tournament this year.

Oakland Metro U12 only has 4 teams and 3 of them are B-ball....Looks like most of the UI2's and going to Reno WS and no need for metro....save money I guess????
