14 Tournament this weekend has many good teams

by Wilson Bats » Fri Apr 20, 2012 8:37 am

Looks to be a very good softball weekend with the Grapettes hosting several top 20 14U teams. The pools look a little odd with Pool A having several great teams paying each other on Saturday. Looks as if someone asked for a strong pool. Some please update this message with game info and comments.

I have to agree Wilson. A lot of good 14U teams playing this weekend. I also agree that Pool A is stacked. I am not sure if the CC DirtDogs is 98 or 99 team? If i were one of the better 14U coaches I would ask for a strong pool of teams. The fact is the better 14 teams do not want to get stuck playing a 12U team who thinks that they should be playing up. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Good luck to all of the teams!!!!!!!!!

With all the rain outs we've had, this tournament almost feels like "opening day". There's a few must see games on Saturday and the road to the championship on Sunday will not be easy.

The weather should be near perfect. I got my XXL Pepsi, but now where did I put my nachos?! :D
No courage. No game.

That is the '99 Dirt Dogs. The '98's are at the Firecracker friendly.

Yeah that is the only thing that I don't like about the Grapettes and RR Gold Tourneys. The entrance gate fee. I could see just charging everyone $1.00..... But with our family of 6 sheez and no icechest allowed...Oh well it is what is is. That's why we will play in Sac this Mem Day.

I totally agree with the gate fees. I see that the best teams are playing in sac tourneys more. RR and The Grapettes should try it out with no gate fees and allow the ice chest. Just to see if teams start to come back. Please someone have the guard dog that sits in the golf cart at Arniaz to relax and give the people a break.

I don't mean to rain on anybodys parade but please enlighten me on one field that Ybarra uses that actually has a gate? And do you really think if he had a physical gate that he wouldnt charge a fee?

You don't have to have an actual gate to charge a gate fee. Almost every park Gary does a tourney at has the ability to set up a gate fee. A table at each point of entry is all you need with a volunteer or a kid making minimum wage.

Foskett 4 points of entry, Wilson 1 point of entry, Antelope High 1 point of entry, Lincoln High 2 points of entry, Maidu 3 points of entry, Lembi 3 points of entry. Golden Eagle 3 points of entry, Reno Off site fields 1 or 2 points of entry only. The only 2 that wouldn't really work would be Lone Tree and Mahany and even these 2 fields it could be done. If Gary wanted to charge a gate he would.

As I have said before I hosted Travel Baseball tourneys for years. These TD's should have a profit of about $3000 to $4000 per weekend not including snack bars. Some facilities will allow you to host snack bars others won't, just depends. I have seen Gary allow multiple org's to host snack bars at his tournaments. Breeze at Antelope, Heat at Wilson etc... If he was worried about making more he would run all snack bars and charge a gate trust me!!! Other TD's should follow Gary's lead, $3000 to $4000 a weekend is a pretty good chunk of change.
