Tryouts - What Teams in 14U 00', what teams in 14U 99'?

by onlooker » Mon Nov 18, 2013 11:46 am

Since what I attempted last fall - getting coaches to list what they really needed specifically in their tryout ads - somewhat worked. Lets not forget to do that again this year. Lets get these girls and families at least directed to a tryout that can be mutually beneficial.

Lets get right to it, 14's is an important year for both the '00 and '99 age group girls (and others as well but focusing on 14U for this discussion). 99's wil be trying to be the top team in Nor Cal while the 00's will be staging themselves for that same desire to be top in 2015 in their final year of 14U.

If you have a DD who can play, and you want her to be surrounded by talent, whose team do you want her on?

Who are the handful of 99's team in this discussion now? Is it coach based? Is it 1-9 talent based? Is it solely P based? Is it org based?

Lets point the talented girls to the talented teams/orgs/coaches. Some parents really dont know what the playnig field is, lets point it out.

From one 99 perspective.

The older 14's have played against each other enough to know where DD might be a fit. It's about play time in the position they want to develop and showcase for a scholarship opportunity. For a girl who sees herself a SS, not getting time on the dirt as opposed to the grass could make someone choose a team that's not as good as another. But it could be a better fit for that reason.

The top 99 teams are going for PGF. Expect to see KG and Firecrackers Miller there. Others will be in the hunt. Any of the other top 99 teams not able to make it to PGF will go for ASA Nationals. Then they'll be all others.

Only a few teams are advertising for just one or two positions. Those are the only ones willing to respond to this. The rest will have their "open tryouts where all positions are open" and then begin to post for needs based on who doesn't show up.

Keys to look for in selecting a team
- Aspirational schedule and ability to achieve it
- Showcase tourneys
- Best fit for DD in the position(s) that will keep her motivated
- Quality head coach who knows the game, the girls, the recruiting process

OBS Monarchs will be fielding a 14u team for the spring/summer 2014. The Head coach will not have a player on the team! Looking for dedicated competitive players only!

The team in the spring will be coached by Steve Drewrey, Corey Reid and Manny Bejaran. Coaching staff has had tremendous success at all levels of play (12u-18Gold and high school teams) We all have daughters who compete or have competed in college softball and have had the privilege of teaching and coaching dozens of players who have played, are playing and soon to be playing college softball.

Tryouts will be posted soon on the tryout section.
