Quality 02 Team/Coaches

by JnS02 » Mon Nov 18, 2013 2:46 pm

Hi all I'm looking for help and opinions on the 12U 02 teams in the Sacramento region. With tryouts right around the corner I would love to hear any insight or advise you have? I've been to quite a few tournaments and it looks to me that there are not nearly as many 02 teams as there are 01's.
Thanks

Are you looking for an age pure 02 team? Breeze and Foothill Gold are the only teams I know of with all 02s on their rosters. There is a Lady Spartans 02 team but I believe their roster is a mix of 01s and 02s.

Yes we are. We would like to find a team that we could hopefully stick with for a while.

I think Overwhelmed is right about Breeze and FG. Not sure about SPartans. One or two of the All American teams is age pure 02s too.

Breeze is in my opinion the beat age pure team. Foothill Gold 02 had a few 01s on it. Spartans i believe are pretty much 02s. AASA teams are niether age pure 02s. USA Elite and TC Smash both have 02 teams. Grapettes(RG) are mixed 01-02 but the head coach has an 02 kid. If you are looking for the best team? Hands down Breeze 02.

Overwhelmed is correct. If we are specifically looking at the Sacramento area, the only two age pure teams are Foothill Gold and Breeze, with Mizuno Bagelmann possibly having all 02s as well. Dozerdog, there are no 01's on Foothill Gold 02.
If you have any questions about the number of 01s or 02s on a team, just contact the coaches and ask.

There are pros and cons to any team. The Breeze, for example, require you to work in their bingo hall. I know several parents who have left the organization because they got tired of working bingo once a month. If you're okay with working bingo, and you like the coaches, parents, and girls, give the Breeze a try. Otherwise, take a look at the other teams mentioned here. I know that the Foothill Gold has kept their core group of players, so they must be doing something right. Bagelmann's team is new, so I don't really know anything about them. The 01 and 03 Spartans are moving to the Firecrackers, so the 02s future is uncertain. I've yet to see a tryout ad for them.

Thank you for the input :)
I did watch Spartans and Breeze play not too long ago.
I see breeze tryouts are coming up. Wonder when spartans will be doing theirs. I won't do mizuno was not impressed by either of their younger teams / coaches.

Spartans 02 has I think one 01 on the team. The rest of the girls are 02's. There are 6 or 7 girls who have been on the team since it formed last fall season.
