Rick Martin

by TC Garcia » Sat Mar 01, 2014 10:55 pm

For any of you that have not heard the news, we lost a dear friend and fellow beloved coach, Rick Martin, last week. Rick died on Sunday, Feb.23rd at his home in Yucaipa. He leaves behind a wife, Tanya, 3 children, his parents and his sister and family. For some of our girls, Rick was one of their first competitive coaches. He will be missed greatly by all that knew him. If you have girls in the 98/99 age groups that played against the Mizuno AA 99 team certainly will remember his coaching and his daughter Megan. He helped mold a lot of girls that played for that Team in his 3 years before moving back to Southern California.

In RIck's memory, the Spring Swing Tournament on March 22/23 is helping to generate funds for the family, Gary is generously donating all proceeds from the sale of shirts and hoodies to the Martin Family. The normal ASA logo will be used, but it will have "In Memory of Rick Martin" on it - presumably under the Spring Swing part. They will also put his initials RM on the sleeves of any short sleeve shirts. The cost of the short sleeve t-shirts is $10, Long sleeve shirts will be $15 and Hoodies will be $20.

If you would like to order any shirts to help support the Martin family, please either email your order to asatournaments@yahoo.com directly or you can email me with your order and I will pick them up and find a way to get them to you. Or if you would like to make a donation to the family directly, you can go to http://www.youcaring.com/memorial-fundr ... und/144086 and make a donation in any denomination on the website.

Thank you so much for your time in reading this. I just wanted to pass along the information (and you all can do the same if you wish) to those in our softball community in case anyone felt moved to help.

Take care...looking forward to seeing you all soon!!

O Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ did weep at the death of Lazarus his friend: Look, we beseech thee, with compassion upon those who are now in sorrow; comfort them, O Lord, with thy gracious consolations; make them to know that all things work together for good to them that love thee; and grant them evermore sure trust and confidence in thy fatherly care; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

I just wanted to thank Gary for all of his Support for Coach Rick this weekend. Gary went above and beyond all expectations! He's the Man!
Thank you to ALL of the Martin Family Friends, teammates and Neighbors that volunteered time, effort, donated money and supported the Wilson Park Snack Bar to raise funds for the Martin Family! The service presented the opportunity for the girls to come together for a teammate! Great to see them prepping fields and working the snack bar like pros. Parents, you were awesome too!
