So...regardless of your intent, looks like you opened up a can regarding this team, and others confirmed it.
Doesn't sound like they are being totally upfront, and if you are looking for a team for your kid, do you really want to worry about all that uncertainty about what this org's plans are?
If you have better options, seems like you should look at them, at least until this all works itself out, which it will, one way or another.
