NorCal

first look friendly

by Iluvblue » Wed Sep 02, 2009 2:05 pm

Saturday we get our first look at some new teams in a 4 team friendly. Only a few practices, but for 15 bucks(per team) a game with 2 very good umpires, you cant beat that.

R&R gold, California Breeze, and Grapettes, and Grapettes 12u.

Excited to see some of the new kids and what they can do.

This is the start of the first full season without Laura being involved with the team. Still catch myself referring to the team as Laura's. She is missed by a lot of people.

Nicely run friendly! You 12u coaches have my praises for what I saw today... Only a couple of practices under their belts, and I already like what I was seeing. I really appreciate how the girls were being commended or corrected immediately. Nothing like putting them out there to let them swim on their own and see how they look (...12u... and some of them just up from 10u... taking on 14u... wow! Got a lot of bang for our buck in 1 day... thank you 14u Breeze, Grapettes, and RR!!). Looking forward to watching this season/year unfold!! :P

I dont know the scores from any of the games as I dont pay much attention. Add in the fact that at some point we start placing some runners on bases and scores are not really useful.

That being said, I was pretty happy with what I saw. We allowed 2 runs to score, and 1 of those was after starting the inning with runners at 2nd and 3rd. I have no idea how many we scored.
Pitchers did a very good job, catchers did better than I expected. These friendlies are nothing more than a way of showing players situations and trying to teach them what to do in those situations.

We pitched 3 different pitchers, 2 in each game, 3innings per game. I was very pleased with all of them.

Sarah does a nice job of just going out to talk to her team when something happens and they handled it poorly. That is what you must do for them to get better.

45 dollars per team for 3 games each, no way to beat that.
