Question for the PGF higher ups

Questions and discussions involving PGF

by Samebeef » Wed May 06, 2020 1:58 am

I was just curious as to why there are no qualifiers set in the fall or winter? Is it a matter of being too soon, no field availability, not enough team interest? It seems like it would be a great way to get some teams qualified, free up some summer schedules for those qualified teams and possibly speed up the scheduling process for both PGF and the teams attempting to qualify. Just curious, not complaining.

Many Schools in the East and Mid West have their High School Season for Softball in the fall and out here in the West and South, Winter and spring are Softball season. High School girls are not allowed to play Travel ball during these times if they play HS, it's called a Dark Period.

That varies by state. Connecticut had a similar rule, but neighboring NY did not.

This is true, but, when schools in other states that run softball in the fall or winter are not in dark period there are qualifiers in their area when it is dark period in California. Oklahoma and Georgia for a couple. So, why not run qualifiers out west for schools that are not in dark yet. California has to wait until playoffs are over before they can get to qualifiers.

Considering what the weather is like in the Northeast in the spring(ie there is a chance of snow this afternoon in May!!) I wish our season had been in the fall. The weather has been great the past few falls in Sept and Oct(November might be a problem)!
