PGF bankruptcy rumors? being sold?

Questions and discussions involving PGF

by TheTownUSA » Mon Jul 27, 2020 2:46 pm

The coronavirus hit all businesses pretty hard, and I'm sure PGF was no exception. But with that said, if this pandemic proved anything, it's that our "greatest economy in the history of the world" was built on a house of cards, supported by the vapor of credit. This was evidenced by how many well-known businesses have declared bankruptcy and are shuttering stores permanently.

Financial advisors tell us we should always have at least 6 months worth of expenses in a liquid bank account for an emergency. Clearly, with the lowest unemployment rate in the history of infinity, and the highest stock market in the history of the universe, people were not heeding that advice. Most people AND businesses were living paycheck to paycheck, as was evidenced by the necessary $3,500,000,000,000 stimulus bill that was passed by Congress to keep our economy afloat.

We will not know the full extent of damage to our economy and country for a long time. There are major retailers, like Penney's, Macy's and Pier One that have declared bankruptcy and haven't paid rent in months, even before the coronavirus hit our shores. These things tend to have a trickle effect. There is at least one major mall that is allowing Penny's to remain a tenant rent free, because it's the cornerstone of the mall. When Penny's falls, so goes the mall. That is a microcosm of our entire economy.

Like our president said earlier this week, it's going to get much worse before it gets better. We are just fortunate to have a president who once promised us that he alone could fix all of our problems. If it were anyone else, we might be in REAL trouble.

Perfect Game Baseball bought out PGF. They're creating Perfect Game Softball. PGF higher ups appear to be staying on board for now but things will change, Perfect Game didnt bail them out for nothing.

Now what happens to the National Championshils, PGs are in late September and in Florida. Does Perfect Game Softball move their Championships to September and Florida as well?

Perfect Game has its own TV/Streaming service for their tournaments, what does this do to FloSoftball, if the National Championships.are moved to Florida that makes them closer to FloSoftball but does Perfect Game make Flo pay them for the rights to broadcast the games or does PG handle the video and broadcasting themselves?

Perfect Game has their own player and team ranking matrixes that charge a subscription to parents to see where their kid or kid's team ranks. What happens to Extra Innings and FloSoftball now that Perfect Game has the inside track to all the good showcases and national championship.

While PGF may have been the ones to go upside down and get bailed out, this move may have repercussions that tear through travel softball like a tsunami after a big earthquake.

You're going to give yourself an aneurysm with all of the worrying bro. It's all going to work out. California is not Nebraska. We have a few halfway decent organizations in this state, and I'm pretty sure they won't be settling for hind tit, just because PGF folded. At the end of the day PGF didn't have their shit together. If they did, this wouldn't have happened. The only question I have is, "How do you f**k up a goldmine?"

This may be why they needed a "few more weeks" to make their decision on refunds for your national championship tournament fees; an event they knew two months ago wouldn't be happening. Anyone care to make an over/under on what % of those registration fees get refunded?

Those are all baseball fields though.

But, what that shows is that PG is willing to build their own facilities and I dont see them trying to do that in California where the bureaucracies will cost them 3 times as much before the first shovel even hits the dirt.

Big organizations in So Cal or not, if PG builds their own facility for softball, it will be back east and if they build their own facility, why would they not hold their National Championships there?

No more Orange County,, say hello to July or August spent in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida....
IDT in Colorado for early July and a few weeks or a month later its time to fly back east again.

Not worried, only a few more years of travel ball left, may take that long before all the changes are implemented

You are wrong - very wrong. This is not a bail out - it is a step forward for both organizations. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant...

PGF ran out of time and money. A few years back PGF sat down with USSSA looking for help. USSSA walked away, as PGF's books were a train wreck.

Generations of teams, families and players have enjoyed coming to Huntington Beach for the PGF Championships. The Softball was great, the weather is spectacular, the surrounding areas are a treat for families because there's a lot to do in your off time if you've traveled from out of State.

That's not going to go away. While PGF may no longer exist or at least as we know it, my guess would be that someone will pick up that slack and fill that void. Maybe the CFL the organization founded by the leaders in our sport? Who knows? But I wouldn't worry too much.. PGF was the Golden Goose for Softball money, someone will grab it.

If you want to worry, worry that you may not get any of your Qualifier or Championship entry fees backfire some teams it's a lot of money (My team is out $1800) That's a legit worry. Or worry we may not have any Tourney's in Southern California until October or November or later. That's a legit worry.

I'd be all in for the CFL to pick up the slack.
