14U NJ/Philly qualifier canceled...July 8,9 and 10

Questions and discussions involving PGF

by 2bucketdad » Thu Jul 07, 2011 6:00 pm

12 teams from all over the country including a few from CA and AZ, DE, VA, were entered, 3 teams pull out and they pull the plug on the 14U division on Wed...Our Va Team was really looking forward to trying to compete with the teams from other parts of the country...

The reason they gave was "3 teams pulled out"...?
I'd call foul on that.
Sorry for your girls. Ours love playing teams from around the country.

ASA went ahead with a Regional with only 6 teams... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26685
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

Yes that was the "reason" we were given. There arent many qualifying tournaments close to us on the east coast...We have a bunch of disapointed players, not to mention the families and coaches...I wish we could get some kind of explaination, the one about the 3 teams pulling out just doesnt fly, no way they would have lost money with 9 teams still attending...

What's a few hundred dollars in (possible) financial losses compared to the loss of credibility? Especially on the east coast, where you'd think credibility is a paramount concern, considering the "national" tournament is already SoCal-centric.

Your case seems particularly odd, as it's run by the same people running the 16u and 18u qualifiers the same weekend, with the 16u consisting of only 5 teams.

As of this morning, 14u PGF Nationals has 3 teams registered from outside the West (CA, AZ, NV, OR, WA), and 5 teams from outside the SW have begun registration.

In 16u, it's 3 registered (CO, OK, TX) and 12 have begun.

I'd be jumping through hoops trying to get more east coast participation, not cancelling qualifiers.

That said, I still applaud the effort PGF is making. It will take time to work out some of the kinks.

If a few more teams pull out PGF will most likely keep the $$$ and reward the berths and you'll never even need to play.

I'm a bit surprised they haven't done it already by just giving berths to whomever is left.

Since PGF pulled the plug on you, what did they say about refunding your $$$.
I think, that I shall try to do the utmost to be new today
