Questions about 18U Premier and 18U Platinum

Questions and discussions involving PGF

by fastpitchdad05 » Thu Dec 20, 2012 12:37 am

I was reading thru most everything I could on the PGF site and and came upon the following statement on one of the PGF 18U National Qualifiers pages:

THIS IS A NATIONAL QUALIFIER FOR HUNTINGTON BEACH - 3 BERTHS PER AGE GROUP INCLUDING PREMIER & PLATINUM (Top 3 teams in 18U earn Premier, next 3 teams earn Platinum)

A few questions (sorry if I somehow missed this on the site):

1. What happens to the Platinum berth (4th, 5th and 6th place) if one of those teams can't or chooses not to attend the PGF Championships for any reason, or goes to another PGF 18U Qualifier and finishes in 1st, 2nd or 3rd? Does the 7th place team get that berth?

2. What happens to the Premier berth if one of the top 3 finishing teams can't or chooses not to attend the PGF Championships for any reason? Does the 4th place team get that berth and the 7th place team gets the Platinum berth?

Thanks in advance,

Additional Question on Premier and Platinum-

In the example, first three get Premier
Next get platinum

as it says if you participate in a qualifier after qualifying in a previous qualifier-you forfeit your berth. would this mean a team that qualifies for Platinum ...cannot continue to try and qualify for premier ...as they would sacrifice their platinum berth. Yes?

No, you can keep your Platinum berth while continuing to try to qualify for Premier (per jmo, see viewtopic.php?p=310380#p310380).

When a team declines the qualifying berth, it will be distributed at the discretion of the board. Some factors that might come into play would be the number of teams at that qualifier, the quality of teams at that qualifier, etc.

Here is the rules as per the website.

QUALIFYING TEAMS Once a team has qualified, they must immediately notify the Tournamant Director of their berth acceptance to the PGF National Tournament. If berth is accepted each team has 10 days to turn in their entry form and tournament fees to the PGF Headquarters. In the event a team that qualifies declines their berth, those berth(s) COULD BE offered to teams by order of finish, at the discretion of the Tournament Director or said berth(s) may be returned to the PGF Board of Directors to be distributed at their sole discretion.

Thanks Pdad- I read that post, but it seems in conflict with whats on the website.

JMO -Is it possible to clarify that a platinum berth recipient can continue to try and qualify for Premier berth. If the event they qualify for Premier status, their Platinum berth would be forfeit?

Teams can continue to try and qualify for Premier without losing their Platinum berth. In the event they do eventually qualify for Premier, the Platinum berth would go back to the board to be distributed at their discretion.
