Las Vegas Qualifier - Dan Hay or Gary H. PLEASE READ

Questions and discussions involving PGF

Having lights on after 10 in Vegas? I think they might allow that. Don't know why I think that. It is always concerning when temps hit record highs and we have our DD's on the field. Heat injuries are never a good thing and require some time for recovery. Colorado is just a couple days away after this qualifier. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!! I also hope the tournament takes precautions at this event.

Start players drinking water now an up too and trhough competition- they should get up at least once at night to go to the bathroom. Gatorade and sports drinks during and after games to replenish-m water(lots of it) at all times. It is important that the eat reguraly too. Try to keep with lighter stuff

Played in a tourney a few years back in SC where it was 100 degrees plus and High humidity and had no heat casulties. Keep the players and parents hydrated

Now that's funny smart a$$.. that made me laugh. I was thinking if the field is in a residential neighborhood not on the strip

Never mind I'll shut up :)

Hmmm Ok possible 120 degree temperature. Don't worry about keeping DD out of heat. Keep her in the sun for 1hour 45min. See how much brain damage happens. I don't think I have ever been in 120 degree heat. Lost parents in Moline at 100 degree high humidity heat. Why does the National Weather Service post Heat Alerts. Warnings Etc. (Not for the softball families.) Just everyone else! If you can't change the times then what else should you do?? Just asking! Alert below....

Kid has played in 106-110. That pushed the limits. Playing in 115-120 is reckless. If you hit the loser bracket early, do yourself a favor and just pack it in. You wont have enough left standing at the end to win anyways unless you roster 20 kids with at least 3 pitchers.

Who was the brain surgeon who thought a qualifier in Vegas in late June was a good idea? Midland or Vegas, once it gets that hot, its still asinine. I wouldnt let my kids do this, but I will be praying nothing bad happens to those of yours who play this weekend.

Totally agree. This is shaping up to be dangerous. If that temperature hits 110, it would seem reckless to have your child out there. Pitchers and catchers especially. Yahoo Weather says it will be 117 on Saturday.

Don't parents get charged and jailed when they leave their kids locked up in a car where temperatures can get up to 120 degrees or more? Just sayin........

Although this post got a couple of smart-ass remarks, it appears the heat is definitely a valid concern with many...

I did receive an email response from from Dan Hay, however, it appears the schedules are at the discretion of the Tourney Director - Mary Endsley, who I emailed but remains unresponsive.

I see that 12s, 14s and 16s are scheduled throughout the day on Sat/Sun so our 18s will face the same fate.

Should you feel the need to voice your concern about this subject, email Mary at
lvevent@aol.com .

Good Luck to all this weekend.

With temps dangerously high, one would hope the Tourney Director realizes that games from Noon-ish to 6-ish border on unplayable. No different than if rain or other weather caused cancellations/delays. Surely there are provisions for weather issues -- changing game times, going to single-elim format, etc. All options should be considered to address the safety of the players, coaches, and umpires.

A different way to prepare for the heat.
Get you kid outside now. Tell them to work on that tan. Not at beach but somewhere hot.
Get them aclimated to the heat, turn the AC off.
I give this advise from experience. For over ten years after HS I built lakes and waterfalls. Would glue black PVC in Palm Springs during summer.
I hope they are able to adjust schedule, but even at 10pm it will still be hot.
Be safe.
I see further, because I stand on the shoulders of giants
