It is in short supply these days......

UPDATE: I Received emails from Dan Hay last night and the LV Tourney Director today and YES, it appears they are making some changes... Don't know what they are just yet but Im really glad to see that PGF is listening and is working to improve the situation.

I must say, I have never posted on HB but my concern for my DD got the best of me and I didnt expect to see the backing that I am seeing. Bottom line is we are all concerned about the safety of our players, coaches and umpires too... Hats off to PGF for not turning their backs on a critical issue.

Good luck everyone !!

From LV Tourneys..............................

Hi Everyone –

This email is to address the forecasted high temperatures this weekend during our Las Vegas PGF National Qualifier. We want all teams to know that the girls’ health and safety is top priority for us. We have received many emails from concerned parents but we simply aren't able to respond to all of them as we are re-writing game schedules and making other arrangements to address the heat issue.

Please communicate the following information to your team:

- Game times are being adjusted to 1 hour 30 minutes no new inning, and no games will be scheduled between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m.

- We have gotten permission from the City of Las Vegas to start games one hour earlier in the morning and have lights one hour later in the evening -- which is an extension to the City of Las Vegas ordinance of 11:00 pm.

- We will have an ambulance on site during the hotter times of the day -- so that any health issues can be addressed immediately by professional EMTs.

There are things that can (and must!) be done on your end:

- Rotate players and substitutes more often; especially in positions like catcher and pitcher.

- HYDRATE!! We cannot stress this enough. Start hydrating TODAY and hydrate continuously throughout the tournament.

- Encourage players to wear caps/visors.

- Read, familiarize, and distribute to everyone on your team, the attached Guidelines for Prevention of Heat Related Illnesses. Coaches and spectators need to be aware of these as well.

In closing, the staff of LV Events wants to reiterate that the health and safety of the girls participating in the qualifier is of utmost concern to us. We are doing everything in

our power to safely enable them to reach their goal of earning a berth to the PGF Nationals. Thank you for your understanding & cooperation.

See you soon,

Keely & Mary

What a responsible, well thought out response from the Tournament Director! It is refreshing to see true concern for the girls, and actions instead of lip service.

It reminded me of a string of emails I received from my ASA Commissioner just last week ... "it is your choice whether you play" and "you could just not play at all".

It all makes more sense to me how PGF has been able to in just a few years change the entire landscape of softball. Kudos to you all, and hydrate!

Well done!

Make sure the girls understand that staying hydrated in extreme temps like this means 8 oz every 15-20 minutes. More for catchers.
