Questions and discussions involving PGF

If we want to start using names on here, why don't you PM me first and we'll go from there. ;)

catcherz there is a thin line between "tough" and "stupid" Most military training excercises at these kind of temps are cancelled- because the risk is not worth the benefit

Just imagine if just one player had died during this scenario- a very real threat when this kind of heat and physical activity are involved. You are beating your chest now, just not sure if you realize how foolish and reckless you appear.

I am NOT beating my chest...but thanks Jon. I simply made the case for ALL the parents who allowed their kids to play in Vegas. If a kid died, what a tragedy; no kid died thankfully. I am not reckless, nor do I "train" my kid in some inane military-type way. I made her hydrate, hydrate, hydrate...and ALL the parents had each other's backs out there watching their DD's carefully. We went to support the team and the coach's decision to play, period. They played well, beat some good teams and qualified.

You could have jumped on me much earlier in this thread...I was ONLY replying to One for the Road because he/she THOUGHT they knew something that they don't. But, again, thanks.

Didn't think so...

My DD was in Vegas, she's a catcher...a damn good one. She caught 3 games in that heat...she hydrated for a week leading up to Vegas, and showed no ill affects of the temperatures. Her team went undefeated and won a berth. Damn proud of her and her team...115 or a perfect 73 degrees in Huntington, coaches enter tournaments, pay money...parents support the team and their DD's and do their best to protect the health of their kid's...at least I know we do on our team and in my family. ;)

We are very proud and to those who still feel it's on the parents, I can take that...and the berth too, thank you. BTW, if the loser's bracket teams BOTH get berths, it's a damn shame and PGF could easily set up a one-game berth event in CA...near the beach of course! So Cal A's and a FC team...something smells like nepotism to me!

Putting kids on the field in 117 temps is not doing their best to protect their health. I stand by the comment of parents that put their kids in this situation are idiots. You make the top of the list.

I would have to agree with OTB. This is a dangerous situation an dthe reward is certainly not worth the risk.

I know that even in SoCal kids aren't allowed to participate in PE if its over 105? And that is only for an hour.

It would be like playing your kid with a 103 fever. Most of those coaches wouldn't practice for 6 hours in that heat.

No, no you can't, otherwise you would not be on here justifying and defending your decision, over and over.

What does it matter to you, your team got a berth. Why put a target on your team? 14U are funny birds.

Well, both teams did get berths so what do you care; can you live with that or do you want to wine about it some more?

PGF does have tie-breaking rules for awarding berths when a qualifier is cut short due to weather etc. The rules, in this particular situation, would have essentially come down to the team that went the furthest in the winners bracket gets the one remaining berth out of the losers bracket. That appears to be what PGF did in 18u by not awarding Lionettes a Premier berth but they got a Platinum berth instead, and that also appears to be what PGF did in the 16u by awarding Batbusters-Ted a berth and not awarding a berth Firecrackers-Young, even though FC had beating BB to force the "if" game, that was in progress and I believe FC was ahead when the umps walked off the field.

In 14u, the PGF rules would have apparently resulted in Firecrackers-Roman being awarded the one remaining berth, but a berth was also awarded to So Cal Athletics-Mercado. C'est la vie.

If Firecrackers - Young won the "If" game and then started the second championship game then that means they were in the winners bracket when the tournament was ended.

Why was Batbusters awarded the berth?

The championship games span the winners and losers brackets. FC-Young got to the championship games through the losers bracket. The "If" game was OCBB's first loss, so they advanced the farthest in the winners bracket.
