Umpire Screwups begin early in ASU vs Oregon

I love it when the spineless announcers say the infamous 'Wow - that was close' which translates to "If I had a backbone I would say - did the Blue just blow that call or what ?" The replay showed very clearly that Sam stayed on base - staring at the right fielder to make sure the ball was caught before she took off.

Save your breath, Mike, dont waste our time with what I know is coming from you. The replay was clear.

Its now even up - a called was blown on the ASU runner who was clearly safe - and the announcers manned up this time. And with the hit off the fence, which would have scored the kid at 2nd - had she been correctly called safe - its now completely even. Both teams have lost one run to the blues.

Ok, this is a late reply. However, I can't believe there are more than 3 viewers on earth who don't agree that when a comment includes "... that was close..." it really is nothing but a precursor to a line of b.s. It's become a bit of a joke. While nailing blues for sport is not the objective, the pattern of fanny covering is well established. How about some variety? "THAT was a unique call".... "I wonder what blue saw that I didn't....." "Obviously he/she has a better view..." Doesn't make is it less b.s., just different b.s. Variety.... !

Another one is when a player makes a good play... not spectacular but good, 2 seconds of camera time and adios. If you make an error the camera focuses a close-up on the players face for 17 seconds of personal anguish with the intent of... the intent of... the point of.... well... I don't know.... I suppose there is a point but I don't know what the video director is thinking (if anything).

And, yes, if there is a particularly wholesome/attractive player in the dugout she WILL get camera time whether playing or not. Pandering to the pop culture set it required.

Oh... the "overlayed on video" strike box... following the ball that misses the box by 7 inches but is called a strike (with no swing). The announcers are typically quiet about that, not having worked up an appropriate mantra for the event. Room for advancing the art....
