Three-time champion Cheryl Milligan steps down as Tufts softball coach
By Matt MacCormack Globe Correspondent November 06, 2018
Cheryl Milligan, who coached the Tufts softball team to three consecutive NCAA Division 3 championships from 2013-15, announced Tuesday she is stepping down.
Milligan’s Jumbos become the first team in Division 3 to win three straight national titles in softball. The run was punctuated by a 51-0 season in 2015 in which the Jumbos tied the Division 3 record for wins in a season. Tufts also reached the NCAA finals in 2009 and 2012.
Associate head coach Lauren Ebstein will be the interim head coach.
Milligan cited a desire to spend more time with her family. Her husband, Jamie Pinzino, is a Shrewsbury native and the pitching coach for the baseball team at Army. The couple have a 5-year-old son, Henry.

“It has been a true pleasure to be a part of the Tufts family for so long, and to have seen the success we have seen,” Milligan said. “I will miss everything about Tufts, but it’s time to put Henry first.”
Milligan took over before the 2004 season after six years as an assistant coach. She was a four-year starting shortstop at Tufts, graduating in 1995.
