Wow! I guess we're lucky nothing has come out of pocket and all gear, bats, gloves, uniforms etc. have been donated by sponsors.

I feel "lucky" now. At DD's D1 school, everything except the glove is covered. This includes, cleats, bats, all uniforms, several jackets ranging from heavy winter parkas to light pullover wind shirts, warm-up gear, batting gloves, all travel (hotels, airfare, meals), etc. The kids who work the camps even get paid for doing so. The school is not cheap to attend and they are fortunate to have one of the highest donation rates by their alumni.

The above is a web site my wife found a few weeks ago looking at colleges that have softball. Not sure how old it is but it gives the amount that each college puts towards its Softball program. It ranges from D1-D3. Not all school are on the list.
Our DD plays D3, we just have to pay for practice uniforms. She brings cleats & glove but gets a bat. All Travel expenses to Florida for 7 days are paid for, with a little help of some found raising by the players.

Done - if I can figure out how to upload the chart.

The median program spends $143K per year meaning half the schools on the list spend LESS than that. I assume that doesn't count coaches salaries or scholarships. I couldnt find a single non D1 program above $500K or so.

I think it includes coach salaries- Big programs aside, most coaches do not make much. Div III they make very little

Another interesting number is the sum of the spend of all the programs which comes to nearly $320 million. I would have to guess that the total spend on college football is at least 10x that or $30 Billion...
