Love seeing a local team in there from SoCal at #16! Not near enough coverage by the local papers...

Could there possibly be anything dumber than a post-season poll in a sport where the championship was actually decided on the field.

Guess what folks? Everyone already knows where they really finished, they don't need your opinion at this point.

At least in DIII it is probably the fact that coaches from one region to another are not familiar with teams from other regions. That is why you probably see pretty even regional distribution in the poles. Teams from the East (Tufts, Monclair, Cortland & Salisbury) dominated the DIII WCWS this year, but the polls really do not show the East being any stronger

As previously discussed, the lesser familiarity is largely due to infrequent inter-region play and is probably also why NCAA has regional rankings. BTW, I didn't buy your rationale of the regional rankings being a driving force in that - schools don't get any direct benefit by playing more games in their region.

FWIW, your "East" consists of 4 teams from 4 regions - New England, Atlantic, Northeast and Atlantic, respectively. There are only 2 western regions and they have the fewest schools.

#18 Claremont/Mudd/Scripps is also from So Cal and plays in the same conference (SCIAC) as Redlands. Very competitive conference. Redlands won the regular season and CMS won the conference tourney. Both teams went to the Regionals.
