watching asu and texas game, and asu third base coach calling out pitches to players at the plate....even if it is legal for a coach to do it... is it really beneficial to the hitter?

It didn't seem to help the Sun Devils enough yesterday.
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

I was watching the Sun Devils game and it certainly did not help. I kept thinking these are some of the best hitters around and he was making them look stupid like it was their first game. He obviously could tell from her (Luna's) grip what she was throwing why not let the girls know what he sees and let them decide if they are gonna sit on a pitch or cut the plate or whatever you dont have time in your head to process a verbal command decifer what it means then process that information to action unless the pitcher is throwing 30mph haha. See it hit it

The last time I saw a coach call out pitches was in 10U All-stars, he actually was yelling out "swing" and "no" for strikes and balls. The kids were so confused and didn't do well, just like ASU.

The men's side of the game does this. With practice it's a huge advantage to the hitter. Mike White, Ehren Earleywine and Mike Larabee also do this. If the pitchers wish to tip their pitches, then the coaches will relay it to the batters.

With more and more men's fastpitch players coaching the women's side, we are going to see this more often. This is why the pitchers have started turning sideways when gripping the ball before the pitch. This is also taken from the men's game. I won't be surprised if the backswing diminishes next. It's another opportunity to see the grip on the ball and recognize what pitch is coming. Just another step in the evolution of the women's game.
