NEWMAC puts 4 in NCAA Tourney

Everything you want to know about the greatest game

NEWMAC
New England Woman's Men's Atheletic Conference

Wellesly(conf tourney winner)
Wheaton
MIT
WPI

All make the NCAA tourney. Three at large bids for one conference which is highly unusual in DIII due to the scarcity of at large bids. Conference was extremely tough this year with many good teams. Wellesly was the five seed in the tourney

Wellesley and MIT got sent to the Tufts Regional (good luck), while Wheaton will host, and WPI is in the Williams Regional. The winner of the Williams Regional will then face Tufts. Wheaton, on the other hand, is on the other side of the bracket and so could get to the final 8 before having to play Tufts. Pays to win your conference even if you don't win the tourney, I guess.

It's another example of East Coast bias. jk Obviously made possible by a 5-seed winning the conf tourney and WPI getting to the conf championship games.

Who ran the NEWMAC tourney - Don King? Wheaton and MIT should be ashamed of themselves for laying down like rugs in it... lol

Wheaton got battered at the end the season by Tufts and did not seem like the same team after. Competition was very tight in the NEWMAC this year. Both Wheaton and MIT had first round byes

Both Wellesley & MIT gave Tufts tough games - great high level ball. NCAA clearly recognized the quality of teams in NEWMAC. If those 2 teams were in different regional pools without two-year Champion Tufts, then they very well could have moved on to Super Regionals like WPI & Wheaton.

Quite frankly, most all the teams in NEWMAC were competitive & would have beat the 4th team in that Regional pool (a team that won their conference).

In New England the newmac and nescac have risen above other conferences. This tends to happen in cycles and I'm sure other conferences will step up their games. Have seen a deepening of rosters lately and drawing from a much larger geographic area than before
