The school.... hummm... well... it's NESCAC, they beat the Evil Empire (Williams) last year in softball and the Williams coach was not happy to see my daughter on the field, at bat or on base. How could you ask for more! Amusing item; on a short fly to left-center, DD (on third) took off to force the issue, sliding under the tag safe. The Williams coach went nuts, r-e-a-l-l-y nuts, SCREAMING at the blues that she MUST have left early (she didn't) because, still screaming, "SHE'S NOT A ROCKET !". The limited crowd at Amherst enjoyed the spectacle. Joy reigned apparent for the home team.

No grade inflation at her school, it's tough to get in, to get out. Not atypical for the "little Ivies", even including the Evil Empire. That reputation helps. The biology degree was a definite plus. She had worked as a summer intern at a medical device company, even participating in a hip replacement on a cadaver at UC. Multiple other summer jobs showed initiative. The school recognition helped. But that's only part of it. The current job will give her the practical background as she has 4 more years of school to look forward to....(sentence ending in a preposition, -3pts).

Perhaps the "Lord Jeff" connection helped with the Biology :D

Ehhhh....the "Lord Jeff" unofficial mascot has been voted out. They are looking for a new mascot name/figure/entity and, apparently, "Not Williams" was rejected. But they are working it.

fasterpitch92701 wrote:I haven't posted in awhile.... but "an event" reminded me of this board and the subject of "what does a player do AFTER college softball?". Well... DD is still working as a research assistant with a thoracic surgery group but is sort of.... sort of... moving on. She was just accepted to Stanford Med School. The whole family is pee'ing in their pants. Key factors were her degree at a tough school in Biology, work experience, her excellent GRE scores and....determination, ability to work hard and focus, focus, focus. And she learned that playing softball.

She still works out daily at the gym. Her catchers legs/knees and broken bones don't stop her. And I could not possibly be more proud of her.

Softball gave her valuable lessons. Focusing on grades early on was key. Having softball helped get her into the school of her choice, knowing that the POINT of going to college was education but the gravy in the process was softball.

Study hard. Play hard. Focus. Good happens.

Enjoy !

Congrats to you all! That's great stuff to hear.

and... just in case any player thinks they redefined "hard work" by playing softball, good that you gave it your all and congratulations. It was excellent to have that preparation. But... now that softball is in the past, it doesn't get easier going forward. After classes, rounds, exams, studying, clinics, more classes... more lectures, labs... sometimes you just need a quick break...
