College Recruiting

Is there time for class

Questions and Discussions Regarding the College Recruiting process

by Paulray » Tue Mar 08, 2022 6:25 pm

The girls schedule once at a college is quite busy. There seems like there is no time for learning. Is it all about softball at the college level? When do they get to learn? Seem like a one way deal. Anyone with experience share?

Yes, but be careful of the skewed paradigm you are potentially entering, especially when receiving $. AD's are driven by winning and you are largely fodder (see 'Surviving OSU'). Many highly ranked softball schools want to trade your future for their present. Ask the coach whether you can major in Physics or Engineering. If the answer is no, its a big red flag. Softball in the modern gyration of the ACC or Big10 involves cross-country travel every other week for half of your school years. Be careful, its a difficult corner to turn and competing academically is every bit as challenging as on the dirt. Avoid the flash. Imagine you get injured (it happens). Many lesser softball schools are much better actual schools. Understand the financial aid offered. Many high end academic schools will foot the bill if your income is <200K/yr. The higher the school is ranked in softball, the more wary I would be. Go to Harvard, not Duke, its a much better choice.
