Questions and Discussions Regarding the College Recruiting process

by fasterpitch92701 » Wed Jan 19, 2011 7:27 pm

And... on top of it all... depending on what you read or who you listen to, students average between 3-4 changes in majors during the first 2 years. While it may seem scattered, it could also be considered quite healthy as a young adult explores future options. Most quality liberal arts schools have majors in math, physics, chemistry as well as the customary english, literature, history, etc.. And... since many professional careers require a masters, getting 4 years of well rounded education and a thorough foundation in a specific field helps out when launching into a masters program.

Unless... unless you are a communications major that thinks because they have played a sport for a couple years they will automatically land avery high paying announcing job or "color commentator" position. Let's see, 751,873 graduates in communications, 3 jobs a year opening up. Sadly for many, particularly those who cannot speak or write (yet have a communications degree), the only vallid phrase they will need is "do you want fries with that?"

And, yes, a degree in 17th century French literature is also a bit problematic. And, to answer another PM, Middlebury is not located between Upperbury and Lowerbury. It's more to the northeast. Keep workin' it.

We have a winner !!!!!! jonriv +1 !!!!

As for the remaining posters... luckily Kenyon and Emory were not on the list but Carlton, Haverford, Johns Hopkins are all in the Final Jeopardy round. And, yes, Pennsylvania should have been an easy one to figure out with only a hint or two. And... since 91.853% of the posters are from the LA basin, if you don't know what state Pomona, Claremont-McKenna, CalTech and Stanford are in, well, you may have to have another cup of coffee. Or two.

jonriv.... now at +2 and pulling away from the competition.

Oh.... lacrosse for those who STILL haven't have their obligatory two cups of coffee... , it's a sport, not a shirt manufacturer or pastry item - a bunch of people run around a big field with large sticks with bags on the end. They beat on each other profusely with the sticks and sometimes throw the ball around to each other, sometimes into a net. Think of it as ice hockey with a ball/stick/net and similar violence but the players all have their teeth and an air of respectability (that may not be earned).

I'm curious, do these colleges have a softball program? Don't know if it was covered earlier in the conversation or not... :| :?

Jonriv, here's a few I know, but not all...

Pomona - CA
Carleton - MN
Claremont - CA

The others I'd be guessing... Davidson in N Carolina? Haverford in like NH, NJ?

Some damn fine colleges in Massachusetts. Geez.

And yes, pretty sure they all have softball... I think some are in NESPAC conference.
Jonriv and '66DAD probably know for certain.
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

Hey JR,

Can't believe you named the wrong state for Wesleyan. It's in Middletown, probably closer to you than any of the other schools on that list.
