1. Have you visited the campus? What were DD's impressions as she will be living there for 4-5 years?
2. Does the school offer her current interest of study?
3. Is the campus "feel" what DD is currently looking for (small/large; urban/suburban; football on weekends v commuter school)?
4. Has anyone had a meal in the dining hall? How was the food?
5. Graduation rate for athletes v overall student population?
6. Has DD attended a winter camp/clinic at the school to get a feel for the players and coaches?
7. Have you attended a home game of the school to see the team play live? What were DD's impressions?
8. Will softball mix with DD's major? Can see take her required calsses and still make the daily practice schedule?
9. Has DD's travel club (or some other local organization who you can trust to give a somewhat unbiased opinion) previously placed any players with this school? If so, see if DD can talk to the player off campus away from the coach to get her impressions of the school and program.

10. HAPPY NEW YEAR !! Best of luck and report back to the group. We all enjoy hearing how the process evolves.

It appears the DD is goiung in with her eyes open and has done due diligence.

Best of Luck to your DD and your family with her decision.

We all look forward to the announcement of the verbal if the answer is YES!

Congratulations on the offer. How was the institution able to offer a scholarship if your daughter is only a sophmore?

If I'm not mistaken, coaches can "offer" a scholarship to a unborn baby........ :D

According to NCAA rules an offer can not be made until a student-athlete is a senior. A coach can verbally say whatever they want, but are not bound to what they say. Only the National Letter of Intent binds a coach to give athletic money.

Are you serious??? Is this your first day? What you say is technically correct. However, a verbal offer can be made at any time and at any age. Yes they are not legally binding. However, typically in softball, the verbal offer is honored by both parties. In fact, in most cases other coaches honor them as well and quit recruiting.

It's always cute when parents of younger age players come on and quote rules.
