Using twitter to interact with colleges

Wondering if anyone has any info or feedback on contacting colleges/college coaches via their twitter acct. asking them to follow the team twitter? Is it ok to do? I see many travel teams with colleges following them just not sure if you can contact them and ask them to follow or you just hope they find you?

You can always contact them, but if your daughter is not a current junior or senior in HS, the coach cannot respond to the tweet or phone call or email. Not until Sept first of her junior year.
