The Next Level, Coach Accused of Sex with Minor - Update

What's on your mind?

by Judd » Fri Apr 18, 2008 4:39 pm

I just finished watching the news and a guy convicted of murder was sentenced to life w/no parole. He was just released after 26 years.

The real killer confessed to his atty but the atty could say nothing due to atty/client privelage. The guy died last year and the atty released the signed affidavit.

Until YOU have been involved in a court case, you will never have a clue. I have been involved in family, civil and criminal cases and 99% of people do not have a clue as to what actually happens. I am not going to go into detail but I have seen 3 police officers give completely different and CONFLICTING versions, yet the judge ignored it all.

Dont have so much faith in the legal system.

The negative PR aspect of this situation is dead on. TB is already the ugly stepsister to HS, which gets all the glory in the press, even though all the great HS players came up through TB. And now the ugly stepsister has Uncle Ernie fiddling about, and the only people who can directly do anything about it, meaning TNL, act as though nothing ever happened. Yet another way to define "insanity".

My next phone call is to DD's coach to ask that we not play in tournaments where TNL is playing, and further, to suggest that he let the tournament directors know exactly why we aren't attending. And if he decides to go there anyway, then he'll understand when I tell him his starting SS and #2 pitcher won't be making the trip. That's my decision as a parent, not to allow my child to be put in that situation.

And since this isn't exactly front page news, it's doubtful most tournament directors are even aware of what is going on. So while we can't directly force TNL to do anything, boycotting tournaments they enter may be the only way to bring any pressure on them to keep this guy away from the fields. How about all you coaches shoot a quick e-mail to the TD's you know with a link to the original story and express some concern about playing in their tournaments if this guy is allowed to attend. Seriously, what organization wants to hold a one team tournament?

Looks like TNL may be winning states and nationals....

You and AF seem to be missing the point entirely. Whether the justice system churns out perfectly accurate determinations of guilt or liability is completely irrelevant to what we are talking about here, which is whether the filing of charges (plus the release of limited but fairly condemning evidence) is enough to justify keeping this guy away from the kids until there is a final legal determination. Anecdotal stories about wrongful convictions--or even wrongful accusations--are pointless. So are statistics about either, unless they show that people charged crimes are no more likely to have committed them than your average Joe. Otherwise the fact that charges were filed means something.

Look, I trust the government and its employees about as far as I can throw bucketdad96 ( ). But I do trust people to look out for their own best interests, and it's simply not the case that prosecutors can get away with filing charges left and right without credible supporting evidence. And other than in high profile matters like the Duke case (where I remind you that the prosecutor was ultimately disbarred and is facing worse) what would be the incentive? It's not like they're sitting on their thumbs all day hoping a crime will be committed--they're slammed as it is. Doesn't add up.

As usual, the trail to trial turns on a single typo rather than the merits of an argument . . . two out of three isn't good enough . . . it's why the best lawyers have great secretaries . . .

Skarp: your insights here are usually dead on, but your simply uninformed when it comes to what happens at your local courthouse. As to missing the point, I clear understand your point . . . and I for one 100 percent agree that I don't understand why TNL has taken this position unless they know something you don't about the quality of the evidence, charges, witnesses, etc.

Oh thats right punish the girls! Now I see it clearly. You are gonna show them aren't you? Boycott games because TNL are entered. How selfish and blind can people get. You're gonna take you #2 pitcher off the mound and away from her TEAM so you can prove a point. Under the guise of "wanting to protect her". That's bullsh*t! You see this is the problem with youth sports today, this parent is thinking individual instead of team. If you care so much about the "girls" what about the girls of TNL. The girls who are busting their butts week in and week out. Who are waking up at 4:00 a.m. to go to YOUR fiendlies, and use YOUR snack bar, and help fund YOUR trip to nationals or triple crown. What about them? Do you just care about YOUR team? Or just YOUR daughter? Or perhaps mabey you do care about the softball community as whole? What TNL needs is your suport, your prayers, your consideration. Having to deal with this on aan everyday basis is bad enough without being berated and verbally abused by INDIVIDUALS who really do not have a clue to what is really going on. It's all just speculation and heresay. Nobody knows for sure. So until then people want results and answeres. Even at the expense of thier own kids. Way to go........you'll show them!

In all seriousness, I have known this man for a long time and I completely trust him with my DD. If any of you knew him at any other level then just by the lies that you read you to would feel the same way too. I guarentee you if your daughter was fortunate enough to be apart of this organization, and you got an opportunity to know this coach and the accusing party you would be in full support of Chris - based on the facts. I am extremely saddened that we as a people can be this horrible, this vendictive and this irrational without knowing anything. It is because of you that our entire world is in the state of unrest. Everyone is filled with negativity and hate with out justification. For 15 years anybody who has been fortunate enough to be coached by Chris not only knows he is the best coach out there but is one of the greatest human beings you will ever meet. STOP the NEGATIVITY and STOP the HATE!!

Wow, you are innocent until PROVEN guilty. Our daughter plays for TNL and Chris is an awesome coach and we would love to have him come back now to coach our daughter. He has always been nothing but professional and demands the best out of our daughter. Either your daughter didn't have it or someone was just honest with you in their evaluation. Let it go, go try and suck up to a coach that will let her play no matter her talent level. Chris requires hard work, demands respect and with that if your daughter has the talent, she will succeed. He is to the point honest and maybe that is what you didn't want to hear that your daughter isn't as good as you think she was. We will be with TNL always, the program is awesome for our daughter and she has learned and grown as a softball player since joinng TNL. We are TNL.

Again, innocent until proven guilty.

I can only agree with Mabuka. Innocent until proven guilty. This is still America.
