Which coach can ask question to an ump?

Rule question? Get it answered here.

Obviously there's a difference between a coach challenging a rules interpretation (allowed) and a judgment call (not allowed). At the plate meeting, the coaches are already warned by me that we will not discuss judgment calls. After the first judgment call challenge, the coach gets a reminder of what was made clear at the plate meeting. Second time, he/she gets to go to the parking lot.

Wasn't a Cuban though, I think it was a Montgomeryan. We had no fun down there.

Actually, cent, you need to find out what was said at the plate meeting. Most of the umpires that take this seriously will state at the pregame meeting that s/he ONLY wants to talk to "YOU" (being the coach at the meeting). If the coach who attended the meeting knew that, s/he should have stepped up at that time and called you to the plate, or accompanied you on the field and ran interference with the umpire.

Nothing was mentioned at all about who could talk to the umpire at the home plate meeting. If they had we would have made an adjustment of who was at the meeting.

With all due respect ... and at the risk of banishing myself to the land of 'No Stogie' ... I call BS on this ... Once you found out who the FU wanted to talk to ... albeit not at the pre-game conference ... you continued to take your slow walk out there, knowing full well he was going to send you packing ... I myself have acted like a bigger A-Hole than that by far at games ... So I'm not pointing fingers ... now, about that stogie ....

I have, on more than one occasion, asked at the plate conference who the head coach was and instructed WHOEVER was as the conference that I would talk with the head coach only. If anyone needs to know where in the rule book it's covered, Rule 10 (ASA, Rule 15 NCAA) will suffice.

Im guessing youre one of them coaches where we need to bust out the old rule that only head coaches have speaking privileges. I use the rule for your own good.

Of course, that is not true in NCAA. .. and IMO an inappropriate warning at just about any pregame meeting.
