It took two pitches to figure out his ball and strike signal. He is a little over the top with his antics, but I tell you what, there wasn't a moment when I didn't know what the count was. He shows the count to both sides, and the fans (looked like a ring girl, walking around with what round we were in :D ) then i beleive he still held the count when he took his position in his crouch.

But then again, maybe all this was acceptable cause we were winning, cause the other team didn't seem to like him too much :o

My best days on the field are the ones that when the game's over, no one remembers me being there.

I posted this on some other boards also:

I'm working a 12U rec league game solo when I have a checked swing. One of the coaches yells, "Get some help, Blue!" So, to be a wise acre, I rip off my mask, point to the first base coach, and hollar: DID SHE SWING?"

The first base coach immediately comes back with a "YES" and a strike signal!!!!!

I reset my indicator and went back behind the plate...it took a few seconds for the base coach to realize what he had just done......

I call HS baseball and softball and I was doing a JV baseball game for 2 private school acadamies. We were in the 4th inning of a pretty close game when all of sudden the catcher jumps and calls "TIME I have to go" :? I call for the coach " I need a sub " but he only has 9 and the catcher is heading for john so I call Time and begin to wait. 10 minutes later , the catcher returns with and frantic look  " I can't find the John!" Well this being 2 private schools and me being patient ump that day , we managed to complete the game with no more delays. I just couldn't bring myself to throw the game, the look on the kids face and the parents trying to hide behind each other was halarious!!

18U game. F1 strikes out B1 and B2 throwing smoke. (I'm estimating pitches in the low 60's.) As they pass each other, B3 asks B2 if she has any advice. B2 responds, don't get in the box but if you do, start swinging when she starts to pitch. :P

Not an umpire but the funniest thing I've seen was after a pitch - one team is yelling the pitch hit her. The umpire asked the batter "Did it hit you?" The batters reply was, "It brushed my nipples" Umpire said too much information and turned bright red and awarded the base.

After calling the ball foul because the ball made contact with her while she was still in the batter's box: I yell "Foul, hit her in the box!" As the batter was picking her bat up she looked me in the eyes and said "It did not hit me in the box, it hit me in the thigh."

I was all different shades of red for several innings.

Go to any umpire get meet up/social type deal, you'll hear a very similar tale .. or tales of the same ilk.. over and over.. from the same guys who already told you it. The "hit her in the box" or "shes got no balls and 2 strikes" type stories just never really get old I suppose... at least they aint slappin ya in the ass with a towel after they tell em.

Sounds like a riot. How do us common folk get an invite?
