Our play started out very much like that one on the video but DD1 hurdled the catcher - and landed on home plate feet first. The blue called her safe - then called her over and loud enough for me to hear "That was the most athletic thing I have ever seen - and if I ever see you do it again, I will call you out and eject you." I looked it up and talked to a UIC that I knew and found out that in ASA it was legal, a high school blue told me it was illegal, and I talked to dd1's college coach and was told in pretty plain language that it was a) legal, b) dangerous, c) pretty stupid. I relayed that to DD1 - doubt it sunk in.

I have found posts that say it is illegal in the HS rules. Then, I found a post that said it is legal in NCAA.

Sorry, I don't know either.

Exactly what I was told. In ASA leaping a player is legal, in HS, illegal, NCAA, legal. But as DD1's college said, stupid and dangerous.

I guess because this was posted in the pub nobody bothered to look it up.

In ASA jumping is legal: RS 13 ……the runner may slide, jump over the defender holding the ball……….

In HS jumping is legal…… if the defender is lying on the ground, 8-6-10 see Note: Jumping, hurdling and leaping are legal attempts to avoid a fielder only if the fielder is lying on the ground.
