HOF Qualifier in Temple

by 93players » Sun May 30, 2010 3:46 pm

Honcho, How was the competition? Were the teams older than you expected? Any teams surprise your team in terms of ability? I figured Texas 16U would be more competitive this year because the Nationals is in the state. Many kids that normally move up would decide to stay down.

Will there be any at-large bids for 16U?

I thought by and large, the competition was very good! I thought some of the teams that looked young were good. I was most impressed by TPS (prob. caused the whooped our butt), but they played good defense, but I was amazed by their bat control and ability to hit top to bottom. I think that some of the older teams were a little rusty from lack of playing together. It was also very hot and humid which alot of the girls weren't yet used to playing multiple games in it. But I think the talent level looks pretty good!

If I was a betting man, I would say there will be some at-large bids. The HOF is the weekend before the colorado tourneys, and it might cause some out of state teams to pick one over the other, due to time, travel, or expense.

By looking at all the teams predicted, it definitely looks like there were some surprises when you read the order of finish posted earlier. Adkins and Storm were both predicted top 3 - what happened to them?

Congrats to TPS, Rebels and Naudin!

Storm was NOT the Texas Storm from Houston. I heard it was a team from Killeen. Anyone see Glory Adkins?

D-bat seems to be a big surprise going into Sunday undefeated. I didn't even know they had a 16U team... (I'm guessing they were 16U) Sting was a bit surprising as well. Thought Naudin would hav still been in winner's bracket on Sunday, as well as, Adkins.

Adkins lost to east texas sting, and high voltage, i believe. They were at a different complex, so I didn't see what went on. TPS put both us(fusion) and Naudin in the loser's bracket. There was a team that withdrew, so they revised the bracet yet again, and that had fusion, montoya, naudin, tps, hawks, blaze(prinzo) all in the same side of the bracket.

We played Tx Blaze Prinzo in our first game. They are a good team. Hats off to them. We hung in there for a few innings then the rust and heat set in and the errors took over. Figured they would have been in the top 5. Our side of the bracket was going to be tough win or lose.... Congrats to all teams and especially N. TX teams who made it to Sunday....

Well that was a hot weekend of softball! Got to see and play some teams we haven't ever seen before so that was a good experience.

1st - TPS, hit the ball really well all weekend from what I saw and heard.
2nd - Sting, team full of hitters.
3rd - Glory (Naudin), top to bottom good solid team
4th - Rebels
5th - S. Tx Rage / D-Bat

Lots of surprises but it's still early and plenty of chances for teams to make improvements in time to qualify for Nats.
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.
