Rosin Bags???

Rule question? Get it answered here.

by slmpbstr » Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:14 am

I need to buy rosin for my pitcher and know there are certain rules on this. I thought it was a certain brand that had to be on a approved list but asked a umpire this weekend and he said that it just had to be the powder type and not the rock type. Could someone please clarify so I purchase an approved one.

Also, in a game this weekend they took one from the pitcher that was the rock kind, but then told the coach that he could call time and take it to her anytime she needed it without being charged a conference...surely that cant be right since it is an unapproved substance that would be going on the hand and ball....and lastly the is the pitcher the only one allowed to use the rosin? or could say a catcher keep it in her pocket...or a SS come grab it in between pitches?

Thanks for any info on this.

My pitcher was using one this weekend and was told she had to leave it out between innings for the other pitcher to use. He stated this was in the rule book?!

For good measure, she should have left out her glove, cleats, hairclips, and facemask while she was at it. Sigh...

That's a commonly misinterpreted rule.

Yes, there is a rule that says the rosin bag must be left on the ground. But that means when that pitcher is actually pitching and using it. When she leaves the field after the half-inning is over, she may take it with her. It doesn't mean she has to share it with the other team.

What was the old Doritos commercial..Get Your Own Bag!

Further, in NCAA, she MUST take it in every half inning as she leaves.
