Question about B teams

What's on your mind?

by marlasmom » Fri May 16, 2008 6:20 pm

Is it legal for an allstar team to scrimmage a travel team? This would be in 12U in So Cal.

It is legal unless your league has by-laws not allowing the same. Otherwise ASA does not ban this type of scrimmage. Would be different I believe if a B team were actually playing in a A tournament but this is a scrimmage.

You better check with your "B" district commissioner.

We just received an email from our district commish that was sent out to all the B managers/coaches (this was the email):

"if any of your REC league A/S teams play against Travel Ball teams they are running the risk of being deemed ineligible for Championship play. A travel ball coach tries to recruit a player , talk to REC players parents while they are playing REC ball - that travel ball coach is running the risk of being "punished" by the ASA review board. On the other side of the situation, if a travel ball coach , coaches , advises or shows a player the "correct' way of doing anything in that game - fielding , hitting , running bases etc. anything- that player is now ineligible for REC A/S play.
I suggest heavily staying away from any games or scrimmages with Travel Ball teams"

That's a class B misdemeanor in Texas.

You should definitely call your commissioner. I know that if any wreck player plays or practices (even if only BP) with a TB team they are ineligible to play any more wreck.

I'm not sure if the rule applies if you scrimmage against a TB team.

Am curious though, what TB team wants to play a wreck AS team?
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

Yah it's pretty harsh rules I would say- I don't get it either- what's a scrimmage going to do? I think its because they think the TB coaches will try to recruit AS Players.....

hey believe it or not- some really good players have not yet gone to TB. So there is some challenge (believe it...or NOT) ;)

What is A/S? And are you talking about one state?

I would think that it would be good for a travel coach or team to come help a rec team, at practice. How would anyone police something like this, which I don't see as a problem?

It's my DD's TB team, we're a new TB team playing a couple of local AS teams just for practice. Believe me we can use all the practice we can get. :D
