I thought once a team qualified for Natl's, their rosters are locked down?
How can they add additional players who may even be playing on other teams?

Yes after you qualify you are allowed three. If the player you are trying to add is on the roster of another team that is still in championship play than she is not eligible to be a pickup player.

I actually like this kind of rule, especially in lower age levels. Maybe a player can't go to nationals with her team because of personal reasons, or a season-ending injury, and the coach has to pick up another player. Maybe a player's team imploded before nationals and she wants to find another team and play out the season. (Our situation last year.) Those are honorable uses of the rule. But I do concede that there will be teams who use the rule to bring in a "ringer" for nationals.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but from the way I interpret the rule, the pickups have to be in the same age/classification and have to be from within the same association her normal team plays too.

So here's my take, for example- if you're 12 playing 14U and your regular team is registered as a Dallas metro team, you can only pick up for Nationals on another 14U Dallas metro team, right?

If that is true, that limits our girls around here from picking up since there are only 2 or 3 super competitive teams from our metro area's that will qualify for nationals.
