Coaches cant wear jean shorts?

We were told that this weekend. I couldnt believe it. I see where it says coaches should be neatly attired. So jean shorts are not appropiate. But another coach was allowed to wear flip flops. This is over the line IMO

Also does a new inning start immediatily after the 3rd out of the previous inning? I just read in the 2007 ASA book that it does but I had parents telling me otherwise as our girls were rushing onto the field and I stated the new inning has already started

We had a coach on 1st base and they said he could not be out there because he had jean shorts. And they looked nothing like Art's pic. Hope I can go to sleep tonight after that vision.

Seriously they were normal shorts, just above the knee, no holes, fringes etc. I believe they allowed him the 1st game and someone else had to do it the second game. Next day another coach showed up who usually wears kakis anyways.

a couple years ago at a western b national tournament in st louis, i remember the directors mentioning something about wearing jorts at the meeting...
didnt make sense then, and doesnt make sense now....we just figured it was one of those outdated rules that had never been updated...

and ive always heard the next inning starts the minute the last out is made on the home team, so once that out is made, no need to rush, if it's "no-new-inning" rule...

What "neatly attired" may be is purely local taste. If this were an issue, it should have been addressed in the coach's meeting prior to the tournament.

Don't let anyone blow smoke up....well, you know. At least in ASA, a new inning begins immediately after the final out of the previous inning. Rule 1. Definitions. Inning.

A new half-inning starts immediately upon the completion of the previous half inning. There is no "delay". Time is continous, except, of course, for times when the umpire will "stop the clock", i.e. , injuries, waiting for TD or UIC for a ruling, disruptions on the playing field (Canada geese are big here in the spring!)

As far as I know there was no coaches meeting. It wasnt listed on their site. Pool games started Friday night and this tourny was 2.5 hours away with our first game at 7. It was the last day of school and kids wanted to do the whole shabang, including riding the bus home. Most of the team got there about 20 minutes before the game started or with about 5 minutes left in the game in front of us. I was already asking the TD if he could help us out which he said he would delay as long as possible before we forfeited. So even if there was a meeting, our team didnt go.

This was Hoover Alabama, no offense but seems like jean shorts wouldnt be an issue.

I was 99% sure on the new inning rule but when the scorekeeper and the coaches wife are telling me different, I was doubting myself.

I guess here in Indiana it doesn't matter. I've seen a lot of coaches wearing jean shorts. I've seen guys that look like they pulled a Dad out of the stands to coach 1st base - t-shirt with cut off sleeves and all. Personally, I always wore khaki shorts when I coached 1st base. Now that I'm just a lowly scorekeeper (who sits in the dugout if the blues allow it) I guess I could wear jean shorts. It hasn't gotten warm enough here to wear shorts yet so I haven't tested it. It does seem kind of silly to me.
