14U Fall Rankings

by watchtonsofsoftball » Sat Oct 30, 2010 9:08 am

New teams will always struggle with the process. New teams with reputable coaches who have been around a while can make it due to most of them having long withstanding contacts with TD's and the like. The hardest part for a new team is playing down south where nobody knows you. If So Cal doesnt know who KG Hitters are, they arent going to get a good pool/field. However his reputation is such he has had no problem getting on the right fields thus far. I think you can bang your head all you want, but in the end you have succumb to a team that can get your kid some looks. As far as the top 5 goes, I know your already irritated with me so I will let it pass. However, those 5 have been producing on the field. The fact of the matter is the top 10 can flip flop at any time on any given weekend. After that, its hit or miss and probably not a real threat right now. There is a lot of parody right now. I haven't seen a clear cut #1 yet. If a team comes out of nowhere and cleans up they will move up. I could care less what organization I list as #1. Its whoever I feel is playing the best at the moment, since its my ranking. Doesn't mean its right, but its damn close :D

I think it's safe to say that the Rain has has to move to the #1 spot given it's performance over the last month of the season. They didn't show up for halloween tournaments, and haven't really come to play on Saturdays, but they dominate on Sunday.

Great job Breeze! I saw the teams entered into that tourney and it was loaded. That`s a huge showing for all Norcal teams. When i saw that Breeze team earlier in the fall i thought they were a little short on pitching. Apparently they came through last weekend. Their starting lineup is second to no one offensively and defensively and their coach is as good as any in Norcal. If i`m a top line pitcher looking for a place to excell, i would seriously consider this team, or the Sorcerers for the most exposure.

just curious wrote:wow you beat a first year team by 2 runs dont hurt yourself beating your chest

Who are you referring to? I thought it was a good showing for a Norcal team to go down and beat some of the better teams from down south. Who`s beating their chest? I think anytime a team from Norcal goes down and shows well, it bodes well for all Norcal teams. Why are you such a hater? Don`t hurt yourself beating your thick skull against the wall. What organization does your DD play for, or do you just get on these sites to spew stupidity with your moronic comments?

.true tests are down south at all age levels

I will slightly disagree with this, and here is why.

IMO, far too many teams go down south so they can return home, pound chest, and then use what they did down south, or just the fact that they went down south as a recruiting tool to get better players.

Dont believe me?? Just look at this thread. And have you also asked or questioned why some teams that get killed up here travel down south to play? If they are getting beaten on a consistent basis in norcal, why spend the money and waste all that time just to go down and confirm what is already known, which is a team isnt all that strong. WHY?????Because the team must tell prospective players that they travel down south x number of times thus making them worthy of a good player joining said team in the future.

Here is an example of why I dont feel team needs to go down south more than a few times to test themselves.

4 or 5 years ago our very young 16u team was playing in Regionals in Vegas. We had not made a single trip to socal the entire Summer or previous Fall. Our first game is against Batbusters (dont know which one) we win and knock them to loser bracket. Next game is against Socal Wildcats, we win, knock them to loser bracket. Next game is against Socal Pumas (they went undefeated and qualified) and we lose 2-0, great game against an outstanding team. I dont know the exact order and all teams we played after that, but I do know we then beat Mizuno Pride, and lost a 2 run lead in last inning of the loser bracket final to SD Breakers, losing by 1 run. Now we could have traveled to socal every week and the results of this tourney would not have changed.

Now I knew our team was good, and we had plenty of good teams to play up in our area each week to keep us on our toes. If a team is good, they are good. Would it be better to play in socal every weekend, sure it would be. But personally, I just dont want to be taking time off of work or drive home that Sunday night knowing I have to work Monday morning just to appease the people in the softball community that think in order to "Prove" your worth as a team, you need to play in socal all the time.

I dont see anything worng with a very good team from our area going down south 1-2 times in Summer and Fall, but anymore than that is not worth it to me.

This is just my opinion, so I do what works for me. For parents that are all into that stuff, do your homework and find a team that will make the number of trips down south you want to do.
Make sure you have a big salary each month also:)

I agree that if your team isnt very good, you have no business going south to get beat up some more. If you are a good team, 2-3 times a season is fine.
Bottom line is you HAVE to go south to see scouts. They are few and far between here. Just easier for scouts to be in one area and so cal is the standard. Do well there and your team gets looks. How many scouts want to come to stockton or near here to see a handful of players? Just makes sense. It is very expensive but its the pursuit to save some money down the road. However if my dd was on a team going south but not getting the right pools or fields , Id evaluate whether that is cost effective or not and probably make a move. Do the move early!
