The evil pool

What's on your mind?

by artomatic » Thu Jun 12, 2008 2:59 pm

How does everybody feel about letting the girls swim during tournaments?

I've always felt that as long as it's after the games are done for the day, as long as it's for no more than a half hour or 45 minutes, and especially if you are in a hotel, it doesn't affect the girls the next day. In fact, it keeps them happy and rewards them.
But never before or between games, or for such a long time that it drains them...

I also know I've heard arguments against that philosophy that claim even a short time in a pool drains the girls stamina more than you would think...

What say you, Hey Bucket experts?

I totally agree with Spaz on this one. The girls will be so refreshed after swimming, they will play like you have never seen them play before, honestly they will. Their legs will perform like never before, it will be an amazing thing to witness. ;)

We've always followed Art's same philosophy. They are still kids, let them have a short break after the work is done.

But that may be too much for your kids in the boat pool. Jayson is exerting way too much effort.

Art! NO! Please don't... go... there...!!!!

Unintelligible gobbledeegook has no place in such a serious discussion!

This could be a good thread, with intelligent input, gamesmanship, and witticisms galore! But to invoke 'that' name only invites calamity.

Actually as a former PTA (haha not for the school, thats a totally different subject) as long as you have a 12 hour break. You want them to get 8-10 hours of sleep. If you have this luxury, 30 min. in the pool followed immediately by 15 min (maximum) in the hot tub is very thereputic for the muscles.
The girls or anyone for that matter are experiencing small muscle tears everytime they play and cold/hot therepy has always been effective. Of course, I am talking about light horse play or soaking, not swimming laps and chicken fighting. Of course, if they played like crap, it's off to bed with them!
Oh, and FPINFO's kid doesn't need this advice cause it's a proven fact that you do not get muscle tears in your ass from sitting the bench, no matter how long you've been sitting there. Then again, soaking in water may make the splinters easier to remove.

Well this thread is certainly timely for me.

Not knowing any better a couple of months ago my wife signs up DD for swim team just as she's done every spring the past couple of years. We then go through the summer all-star softball schedule and realize she's going to miss just about all her meets making her swim coaches unhappy. Today she goes to her first swim team practice and I pick her up at the pool to take her to softball practice. She did ok hitting and fielding but she had absolutely nothing pitching.

Fortunately it was just a practice but it's looking like career decision time for her. It'll be a no-brainer though, she already decided she didn't want to do swim team next year when she saw the softball conflict. Choir and Girls Scouts are next to go.

Ahhh yes "That Evil Pool"....
I say let them "HANG OUT" in the pool for about 30/45 minutes no rough play or swim races
HOWEVER, it is the coaches responsibility to make sure the girls are behaving themselves so take plenty of suds an the Big Red Cup's (good time to have a coaches meeting)and fill them up......just don't lose track of time,,,, like waiting for the manager to come out and tell you the pool is closed.....Ahhh yes "That Evil Pool" :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:
