Uniform - shorts or pants

What's on your mind?

by greenandblue » Sat Jun 14, 2008 8:36 am

Just curious - what does your team wear? Regardless of the weather.

My DD's on a team that refuses to wear pants because two of the players refuse to wear them. They think they look too fat in pants. Apparently they don't look in the mirror when they have the shorts on.

When sliding, sliders under the shorts DO NOT prevent tearing up your knees and legs, they only cover the upper thigh.

We didn't see many (any) WCWS teams in shorts this year. Maybe, hopefully, they are a thing of the past.

I can't tell you the number of times we have been in a restaurant or store and someone will ask my DD in her shorts uniform if she plays soccer. After 16 seasons, now she just says yes. Even now when there is a softball on her team logo on her shirt.

Actually I saw one team at the WCWS, unsure which one, that wore shorts for one of their uniforms. Come to think of it, that might have been at a super regional though.

Our girls wear black pants all the time, no shorts with any uniform at all and we play in Houston so you know it's hot. The girls all prefer the pants and personally I think they look so much better than shorts in addition to the fact that their legs don't get scratched up nearly as much.
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

Team USA players wear shorts. I don't know why...maybe sponsors...maybe preference. They are mostly 25-35 year olds that came from the Bobby sox era...go figure.

We have shorts and pants but wear the pants 95% of the time. At first all we heard was how hot they were, but since we dont give them a choice they have gotten used to them. I think they're more aggressive when wearing pants. But not very many strawberries to show off which is a good thing I guess. :P

This has been one of softball's great mysteries to me. The amount of scarred flesh that is acceptable in the name of an incremental increase in cooling effect boggles the mind.

Wear pants. If they're hot, have them drink water.

I wore shorts. Shorts were the uniform for 70 years in ASA. I didn't want to change. Believe it or not, we did not have sliders and we did not tear up our legs (much). There aren't many girls sliding correctly these days and that is why they would tear up their legs.

I wish I had video of my DDs catcher. We called her Slider. Very little of her leg ever touched the ground. Some young ladies practically dig a trench out there.

Anyway, times change and my DDs HS team changed from shorts to pants in the past 4 years. (Flagstaff, AZ, where it is cold.)

Prior to that, men's baseball pants did not fit us. What the girls are wearing now are girl's pants. So, I have had to change, too.

Let the ones that want to wear shorts wear shorts. The rest of the team can wear pants.

But they would look so UNPROFESSIONAL

My DD has always worn shorts until the last month. With sliders, she has never gotten scraped up. Today she was a base burglar wearing shorts and she had 4-5 slides with no sliders and no scrapes.

Who cares, if the girls are uncomfortable, let them wear shorts. If they get scraped, and they want to wear pants, then they can wear pants next time. When the weather is in the 100's let them make their choice.

We wear pants, PERIOD! No way would I personally let 2 girls wear shorts. Yea, its hot. But really think about it. After the high socks and knee pads , there is only maybe 2-3 inches showing anyway. Not THAT much cooler!! Also, why can Boys wear pants playing baseball? Isnt it JUST AS HOT for them? Dont worry, the girls wont "melt!"

All I'm saying is the best players in the world are wearing shorts, (USA Olympic team) but what do they know. My DD didn't want to wear pants at first, but she's fine with it now. Cheap polyester pants are miserable in the heat, 100% cotton only please. If you give the girls a choice most will choose shorts. They want to be girls first...not have daddy dress them up like boys.IMHO
