Texas 14u "A" Metros

by Lefty's Dad » Tue Jun 17, 2008 7:08 am

Dallas had 5 teams signed up for their metro.
Fort Worth has 4 teams signed up for their metro.
Houston has 15 signed up for their metro.

It looks to me like Dallas and Fort Worth need to combine their metro tournaments. Why such a low turn out up north? Are some teams just sick of losing to the top teams up there or what?
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

We've had a couple teams disband, a few that know they can't compete (not being sarcastic), several registered as state teams, and a few that choose not to go the ASA route for nationals. The B teams don't even sign up in 14's.

I'm thinking some of these state registered teams do so because they get to compete against "lesser" teams for 3 berths, instead of "bigger" teams for 1 berth. I like my chances better at metro's (25%) because some of those East TX teams could sneak up and steal it. American Freedom, TT- Splash, SC Mean Green, Anderson Express are just some of the good state teams I know of.

Heck, 12U Dallas metro's only has 3 teams- 1 "A" team and 2 "B"'s.

Hopefully, they keep it the way it is. :D

If that stays true (re: Ft. Worth and Dallas).... they should combine the tornaments into one - no 2 ways about it!
When asked how many times she hit Tiger with the golf club, she responded, "I'm not sure...put me down for an 8!

It's pretty well known here that if you can't get a berth from HOF (31% chance), NQ (3%), metro's (25%), or regionals (5%), your team really doesn't need to be there anyway.

And we like things the way they are so you S TX people need to hush. ;)

You are trying to hard to be the "know-it-all" on this board and instead, losing credibility quickly. A "state" team can opt in to a metro if it has enough players boardering a metro and if it chooses to do so, but a "metro" team can not opt out of being a metro team to play state because they think it's "easier" . .

Your comment about state teams competing against lesser teams shows your ignorance or arrogance . . . unless you think, the Texas Hawks, GT Shockers, Travelers (Splash), Anderson Express, American Freedom, Texas Elite (Mongillo), South Texas Elite, Round Rock Crush, Austin Stars '93, SC Mean Grean, Bad Attitude, East Texas Force, Odessa Angels, Midland Chaos, Turn 2, etc. are "lesser" teams.

Historically, the Texas ASA State tournament in 14u has more than 30 teams. When two of these stronger teams meet in the first round and one of them falls into the loser's bracket, it is virtually impossible to climb all the way back to qualify. It happened last year to the Traveler's (Splash), who failed to qualify out of Texas State and then won ASA Regionals. Dallas metro strings it's tournament out over three days like a rec ball tournament to allow a team with a single ace pitcher to throw every day.

Stick to discussing the second-tier '94 teams your DD plays for because now that the Fusion (Mork) qualified out of HOF, no Dallas Metro team would earn a berth out of Texas State.

I believe that you just verified what she was saying.....quite a few of the D/FW metro area teams register as state teams simply because the points don't seem to be done the same and they can play A or B when the feeling strikes. I know this because my DD played on a team that was state registered. If all of our metro area teams registered as such, we would have a heck of a competitive tourney. Personally I would think registering as a state team instead of metro would be advantageous, in the sense of fighting for one of three, not for one single berth. Also, to say that none of the teams in the metro tourney would have no chance in the state or regional is ludicrous. I think that it has already been shown that these teams can jump up and bite anyone on a given day. But, then again maybe you are right and we should all tuck tail and bow down to the teams that you feel are worthy!!! :ugeek:

actually, its seems to me that there should be one qualifier from metro, then the rest qualify for state, then qualify for regionals.....IMHO just like playoffs for any other sport. 1 for metro, 3 for state, and maybe 5-6 for regionals. Works well like that for track. :ugeek:

Let's all take Skarp's advice and paragraph please.

Your arrogance is showing. Dallas and Ft. Worth metros are the only one who even care about VTD "points." Houston tournament directors hardly even use the system. Tournament directors outside these two metros think the points system is ridiculous and interferes with teams abilities to play where they want to play. If a "B" team wants to play up in an "A" tournament, they let them. A tournament director is free to reject any team it thinks is sandbagging. Also, Texas ASA's definition of a "B" team is entirely different that California's and most of the rest of the country, but you probably knew that right?

The reason most state teams play Texas ASA state is because it means something more than just a berth to nationals. To win a Texas ASA state tournament is an significant accomplishment in itself. It is why you don't have So Cal state teams skipping their state tournament to try to earn a berth somewhere else that weekend. And sorry, but without the Fusion (Mork), the Dallas metro teams would not win or qualify out of Texas ASA State, but yes, they definitely could put several of the better state teams in the loser's bracket.

First things first, I had no credibility to start with. I guess I should start every post with IMO since there are nothing but facts posted on this forum.

Duh, that's what I just said genius:

Ha, I won't even go there.

I'm not an expert by any means. I was giving my opinion to Lefty's Dad as to why we have so few teams registered for metro's. A little defensive, aren't we?

sorry, I am originally from Kansas and we don't paragraph.....we just follow the points  . But I will try and do better.
As far as letting my arrogance show, I can't help that. I try to hold down my greatness, but some always manages to slip through.
Now for the thread. My point is that the point system is ludicrous, and should be disregarded. But why not let the metro teams play in states? Are they not part of the state?
Just like you said that if some state registered teams can opt in to metros, why can't it be vice versa? :ugeek:
