2011 miss softball canidates

Whitney Arion is definitely the most well rounded player in the state..( that I have seen) and should be player of the year. It's about time someone other than a pitcher gets it..!

Haven't been on in awhile but not sure you can have this discussion without Bell (Lutheran), Harrison (Noblesville) and Jones (Carmel). Not only have they consistently produced and are on successful teams but are going on to play for big D1 programs....Alabama, Arkansas and Missouri. And...none of them are pitchers so hopefully this is the year for a non pitcher to win.

Pappy....don't care for kool-aid, thanks anyway..! The girls mentioned are all very good players and viable candidates...now as far as stats go(which are impressive, but presumably high school stats, kept by who knows whom), I could care less. I have watched most all of these girls, and just go by how they have stacked up against top notch competition in big tournaments.

Pappy...appreciate the stats but I believe the voting for Miss Softball focuses on career stats, not one season. I'm sure having a great senior season will help all of the players of course but last season will quickly be forgotten once this season begins. Best of luck to all of the girls that have worked hard the last four years!

I've seen Filler play and no doubt she is very talented. But like some others here, I do get a little nervous about high school stats being the measuring stick. DD plays in the MIC and their non-conf schedule is filled in w/ the likes of Roncalli, HSE, Pendleton Hts, Noblesville, FC... HS schedules are very uneven driven mostly by geography and population. It makes stats comparisons very diffucult. In 2011, would my DD's .450avg be more or less valuable than someone else's .716BA? I'd say overall, they have done a pretty good job selecting Miss Softball considering the disparities in HS competition.

Come to think of it, a thread about your best HS stat story might be fun. The stat charade is everywhere. Watched DD play at Center Grove last year. After the game I went by the concession stand and stopped with another parent. We counted 9 CG parents with their own scorebooks.

I don't have a horse in this race, but I am posting this link for anyone who didn't read today's edition of the Indystar.
Congrats to all the girls listed and to the many more that weren't named.

Pitchers and catchers tend to be favorites because there are involved in every single play and have more room for error and more times than not a dominating affect on how the team plays as a whole. If you are not a pitcher or a catcher you must swing a pretty big stick and be flawless on defense and have a certain poise about them on the field. As I have not watched all the girls included in the post play I cannot chose, but I can sure bet ALL listed will be at the All-Star Game.

And I agree with smoke... high school stats vary from team to team. Every coach is looking to get a extra base hit here or cut out an error there, expecially with girls this talented. Who knows, some of these girls parents could be the one keeping the school book. Also as mention strength of schedule plays a HUGE role, you have some girls facing ranked pitchers twice a week and other twice a month... BIG difference... As a travel ball coach and high school assistant I don't think stats prove a whole whole lot when it comes down to who can play ball...
