ROCKWALL 14U TOURNAMENT

by NATURAL » Mon Mar 07, 2011 2:44 pm

I witnessed something this weekend I had never seen before. After the 5 pool games and after bracket play the tournament decided to have another game after the single elimination bracket play was over. They made one team that had one lose play another team that had one lose just to see who came in third place. It was never on the bracket and to make things worse the two teams played each other in pool play the previous day.

I feel as though that maybe someone in Rockwall may ought to think things out before they put on another tournament.

I was at the tournament also and although I respect the opinion of the person to post this topic, it is not entirely accurate. The 3rd place game was played between Aftershock98 & Dbat99. It is correct that Dbat lost just 1 game in pool play but Aftershock lost 3 of the 5 in pool play. I don't see the issue with the extra game for 3rd place. I'd think that having the opportunity to play for a team trophy should outweigh any "inconvenience" of an extra 75 minutes of play. Just because it was a rematch of a pool game shouldn't discount who won. Aftershock played great on Sunday after getting a real tough draw in pool play (They got beat by Glory and Fireballs also). Fireballs were the champs after a great game against Glory. Dbat99 had a rougher Sunday then Saturday and you could tell those young kids were affected by the pressure of single elimination play but I give that team credit; with 12U being so weak this year, they showed they can compete with some of the upper echelon 98's and when they drop back to their age group, they should be the team to beat in NTX.

The last time I checked 99's and 98's are in the same age group??? 12U. It's great that a 99' team is playing well against 98's. Give them kudos

upper echelon 98s? Really?
For one, there weren't any there and, if the pool schedule is accurate they didn't play who I'm assuming you're calling "upper echelon"

I'm sure they are a fine team but aren't we getting a little carried away by what was basically a very weak 12u tournament that called itself a 14u tournament?

Before well all start chest thumping and talking about how great their team is, you are missing my point completely. I was stating that the 99 team did very well and more than held their own against some similar aged players. As far as "upper echelon" goes, if you are going to say that Glory98 is one of them, then by default you have to include the Fireballs. I would go so far to say that it is far too early to claim who is the top 98 team. You also have Fusion98 but IMO they are all chasing Allen98. I can't say for sure who is doing what but I would imagine all 4 of the teams listed above have their sights on Montgomery.

Overall there is obviously only a handfull of what most of us will consider good 12U teams that can and will compete on any given weekend. I would say that the top three teams in this tournament could place at any event they enter, which is why they make the list. I am sure that the coaches of the teams that will head up that list will vouge that the '99 team in question is probably the most talented '99 team in the area and will compete with all '98 teams and most of the '97's out there.

Fireballs and Glory are both solid. They are both pure 98. They will be a force to rekon with in 12U nationals. 3rd place AS - has never been pure 98 as they have 97 players and continue to pick up on a weekly basis which are usually 97 players. Based on that I have a hard time comparing them to a 12U team as technically they are not. Either stick to 98's or change your name to AS not AS 98. Either way there are no issues just promote your team correctly.....
