Predictions for 14U Mckinney this weekend.

by ceelo9 » Thu Mar 24, 2011 8:20 am

Looks like alot of the top N.Texas, some would even say in Texas teams will be playing this weekend. My DD's picking up, so no real dog in this fight. I would have to say Fusion & Glory-Allen are favorites. Looking forward to watching some good ball.

You could say some of the top 12u teams in NTx are in this 14u tourn. but I wouldn't go much further than that.

Pool A is adkins and fusion
Pool B is glory and axe
Pool C is pride and axe

We don't play up in McKinney anymore because IMO, the tourneys aren't set up that well. It appears that this tourney follows suit but they get the money with their gouging at the gate so good for their pockets I guess.

This is a weird one though. Only 4 advance to bracket play yet there's 3 pools. The winner of each pool and a "wild card" advance to bracket play. I can see why some teams will not like this because you don't even play everyone in your pool. Quite feasibly you can have 2 pools with 2 undefeated teams yet 1 of those unbeatens won't advance to bracket play. Pretty screwy if you ask me but that seems to be the norm up there.

Pool A - Elite 97: Obvious set up to be the strongest pool by far, top 4-5 in this pool could win the other 2. But Dbat Saldiver is pretty good also and they don't have to play Elite.

Pool B - Glory 98: With respect to other teams, pretty easy road. Shocking? I think not, good home cooking.

Pool C - Axe 14U. They should do quite well in this pool

Wildcard: This is really a crap shoot because with pool B & C being a bit weaker, you could see someone sneak in at 5-1 because I think pool A will beat up on each other pretty good but I'll go with Dbat Saldiver who will probably go 6-0 in their pool also.

They should change this to a 12u tournament. The majority of the teams are 98's.

I was trying to figure out the results from McKinney last weekend. Only 4 teams from all of the pools went to bracket. The top seed from each bracket, and then from all pools, an overall "wild card" seed - that I understand.

But, how did 98 Glory get 5th place? There were only 4 teams that went to bracket, so shouldn't there have been 1st -4th placements, and then all the rest? I don't understand how there was 5th place. Maybe they had to have a flip for that last place in the bracket?

Doesn't really matter. All teams who entered received 2 points, unless they placed 4th or better. Perhaps it was just a way to promote their team since they put on the tournament. Probably harmless. I do wish, however, that they would list the results of all the pool games. It is fun to watch the scoreboard, so to speak. You can better compare how teams did against similar competition....Just saying.

"Perhaps it was just a way to promote their team since they put on the tournament"
- That's an odd thing to say. So, if you host a tournament, you can give yourself a placement? No big deal, I just thought someone knew the answer.

I assume all of the scores of the pool games were kept, so I'm also not sure why they weren't posted. However, not really sure you can get a complete picture of what the competition was when there were a few pretty new teams, a few teams with old names but new players, and more than likely a good amount of pickups at this time of year.
