UIL Pitching rule?

by txfirewife99 » Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:57 pm

Ok, just watched a high school game where in one inning the coach had 3 conferences with his pitcher, but didn't pull her after the 3rd. Is this rule different in UIL than ASA? :?:

There are different rules with UIL and ASA. The UIL book is available online at the UIL website. Conferences are a judgement of the umpire and they may not count all conferences as a pitching conference. Foot contact with the rubber is different as well. UIL only requires one foot in contact during the pitch after the presentation.

I'm not sure what you're expecting because ASA rules allow 3 defenses conferences per game. The pitcher doesn't have to be changed until the 4th conference.

It looks like UIL uses straight NFHS rules because their website for softball doesn't have a rule set - it only has a link to the NFHS rules.

Thanks for the response. I will have to review the ASA rules again because I thought after the 3rd conference with pitcher she had to be pulled.

In the game I watched it was evident all conferences were with the pitcher; however, on the 3rd they tried to play it off with dirt in the catcher's eye after the conference. The pitcher was having an up and down game. In this particular inning several points were scored. The pitcher loaded the bases and then walked in a run to put the game within 1 point of a tie. It was a very long hard inning for the visiting team. Fortunate for them they got the outs and won. Had the pitcher been pulled, the outcome could/would have been different.

As far as UIL play goes I know it is different just didn't know how different. I did search Texas UIL and did see also how they play under NFHS rules.

What I expected was just a clarification of the difference in the rules. I am the parent of a 99 so I am not as versed in as some of the more experienced here on the boards. I tried to do online research myself to find the answer only to find nothing more than apparently they go by NFHS rules.

Thanks again!!! Just trying to educate myself a little more about the game before my dd reaches that level (which is many moons away).

And I failed to mention he had previous conferences with her prior to the last inning. Total game there were at least 4 conferences. Most of them, the entire infield went to the circle. I didn't start keeping track of conferences until the last inning, plus I arrived at the game late in the 3rd inning.

What did your coach say the rule is?

Defensive Charged Conference
ASA rule 5.7.B = 3 per game plus 1 per extra inning; remove pitcher

NFHS rule 3.7.1 = 3 charged conferences per game plus 1 per extra inning; After 3 remove pitcher

This came up in a local HS game this year. Because the rule for NFHS reads Afterthe third conference remove pitcher, the pitcher is removed on the fourth trip to the rubber.

I was just a spectator watching with my husband and daughter. I looked up at the coach's wife and asked her and she just shruged her shoulders. Also, our pitcher's mom was sitting in front of me. I asked her as well and received the same response. Apparently they weren't as concerned with the rule as I was and neither was the coach. I did stir a dad's attention though. Guess the game wasn't that important to them.
