The tip about Walmart I plan on sharing with my team, I have been thinking about scrapping our Techzilla and Stealth, to get one of those sweet pink Jennie Finch's.

I tried to be kind and light. If you have an axe to grind, do it somewhere else. Your snide digs are juvenile and uncalled for. You do not know me, so why post what you do? I am sorry we don't live in an area where we have travel teams coached by 'professionals' that have no familial ties to the girls. So rather than let my DD be coached by some other "Daddy", I decided to coach. So go find a therapist and let them help you work out why your Mommy or Daddy didn't hug you enough as a child and leave people that want intelligent helpful conversations alone.

To answer your question, Hoosier, I would look for ways to place the kids under stress (at this age level, this becomes a little complicated) and watch their reaction.

Tell everyone this is the last set of windsprints, change your mind at the last minute and watch their reactions.

Tell everyone they can take a break, except for one or two kids who have to perform a menial task (pick up all the balls, run to the outfield to retrieve something left there, etc...) and watch their reactions.

During a break, ask if anyone would like to conduct a drill (ground balls, throws to 1B, whatever) and see who wants to join in.

This should give you some insight as to who really wants to be there and who will maintain a positive attitude when times get tough.

Hello McFly, they are 8 you can't cut them because you don't want to be responsible for the damage it could cause, so you have to make them quit!

So simply cutting 8 year-olds from a team will cause irreparable damage, but putting them through the Navy Seals selection regimen is a humane solution. Gotcha.
