I was absolutely flabergasted at what I was seeing. The plate ump deliberately refused to call strikes that were so clearly strikes even to an unknown eye. There was another ump that stood back and watched for a few then offered to walk down and get the UIC, he also couldn't believe what he was seeing. Another observer (not a part of either team playing or my DD's team)went to get the tourney director because they couldn't believe it either. Once the tourney director went and stood behind the fence (behind the plate) the ump straightened up really quick. Unfortunately, for the team effected it was too late. There wasn't enough time in the game to recover. It as too bad that the coaches on the other team lacked integrity as well. They were telling the players take it any way you can get it knowing full well the ump wasn't calling anything that they didn't swing at a strike. There was one team for sure that was robbed of a game that was even remotely fair. Many of the umps were up there in age (not against older umps) but they should be able to do what they are paid to do. If they can't get down enough to see pitches or they can't run quickly enough around the bases to make good calls they shouldn't be there. Between the lack of integrity of the ump (mentioned above), and the lack of integrity in the tourney director(not refunding money or not making appropriate accomodations to ensure a 6 game guanantee for all teams) I am not so sure this tourney will be one that many will continue to attend.

First of all, when the cancelled some of the games the communication coming out to the team's was not very timely and clear. Many teams were already at the field ready to play. They should have sent someone out to check the fields much earlier then they did. As far as not returning money, that is a ripoff and may cost these folks entry's in the future. (Show's what kind of people are running the show). If the fields were closed due to rain then the rain out policy should have been in affect. Outside of that it is the responsibility of the tournament director to ensure the fields are up to par so teams can play. The rainout policy indicates:
2. If the tournament gets rained out and your team has played a game(s)
you will be charged for however many games you have played. The amount
charged per game will be based on the entry fee divided by the number of
games guaranteed.
Many teams did not get the 6 game guarantee and by all means should receive a refund.

Was this ump calling it the same way for both teams, or was it just against yours? And you're going to blow up an entire tournament because of one umpire? What's you other agenda? Ever try to get a refund from Surf City? Those tournaments seem to survive.
