tryout postings

by Iluvblue » Tue Jul 12, 2011 7:22 pm

One of the most important pieces of information that people need IMO, is info on tryouts. The main page for our area is right here. This is where people go for that info. I didnt even know we had an area for tryouts.
So now I see that Scorcerers tryout info has been removed, and probably moved to an area that nobody is going to see, yet a post mocking some crazy dad (which is funny by the way) seems worthy of being left up on this page??

This doesnt make any sense to me. A post selling gear is ok, a post by the clueless blasting me is ok, but a team posting legit softball information needs to be placed in an area that very few read???

Just seems a little silly.

Not everyone wants to be bombarded by tryout posts being constantly bumped by coaches.
If someone is looking for a team they know where to look. You may think it is the most important info being posted but others may feel differently.

Ahh... where?

I'm not sure that everyone does know where to look. Would it be difficult to put a "NorCal Tryouts" sticky at the top of this page with a link or directions to the proper section? I could see that thread getting filled up with tryout posts if people were able to reply, so it would probably only be useful if it could be locked.

I was typing my reply as you posted yours. To get there:

Wow... at the risk of sounding like a moron... again. Been on here for four years and never knew the "looking for..." heading took you to some phantom topics.

So, since one of the most prominent teams in the country posts here you remove then yet, you keep other teams tryout announcements.

Doesn't seem to be consistent or make a lot of sense.

We were repeatedly asked to add a tryout forum for NorCal so we did.

Thanks for the question, Corey.

Although I am affiliated with the Sorcerers 14 team, this comment has nothing to do with that.

For the LIFE of me, I can't understand the hub-bub that always seems to arise about tryout postings.

Are there people out there who feel obligated to open every thread, and this somehow interrupts the valuable time of their day?

Same with any other thread.

If you aren't interested, DON'T OPEN IT.

For a board that was founded on - and continues to embrace - irreverance and a certain casual interaction, this kind of thing is just nuts. MY OPINION.

I personally have no interest in where to buy socks, what 10 YO team someone thinks is the best around, or a host of other subjects. I manage to refrain from opening threads on subjects which don't interest me. I DO understand those subjects DO interest others. It just seems so simple to ignore the threads I don't care about.

Best regards,

Scott

I agree Scott,
and while I agree, there are surely people that dont want to see tryout postings, just as there are some that want to see them.

There are some that dont care to see posts bashing individuals, yet some that do.

IN the end, posting teams tryout dates and locations is easily one of the main functions (IMO) of a board such as this. It just doesnt seem to be that big of a deal. And there are clearly going to be people that come here that have no idea there is some special location for tryout postings, thus people will miss it.

Can people go and find out info on a specific team?? ure, but the new people may have no idea said team exists.

No biggie either way, just a though.

Scott, I will let you buy me a beer at Premier . Been a long time since I have seen you:)

If something isn't properly organized or user friendly people won't use it.

I'm a parent and my primary reason for being on this site was to better understand what level of competition I got my child into. I took my child to a tryout. She made the team but I didn't understand why there was so much to do about girls playing softball? I understand baseball well. I've played in national tournaments myself and had a brief college experience. I just did not understand this travel ball culture.

Anyhow organization is key. I just think it should have went in this order:

Fastpitch Boards > Tryouts > NorCal

If tryouts are such a main function of the board put it where people can find it. If the people who run this board are paying attention your tryout board is probably going to get the most views especially now, and about six months from now. Just a thought if you ever get big enough to sell ad space.

During the Fall and Spring do you want to have to read over the titles of literally hundreds of new posts for players just to find a discussion topic that may interest you?

I don't think there ARE hundreds of tryout announcements on the NorCal board.

But, yes, to answer your question.

Scott
