most classless team EVER!!!!!!!

What's on your mind?

Daughters team was playing in a college recruiting tournament. Was the semi final game, pretty equally matched teams but we were up by 2 runs. Umpire had been calling about 6" off the outside corner all day for both sides. Of course, was great when their pitcher was throwing, was horrible when ours was throwing. Game slowly digressed to the point that in the later innings both the other teams coaches and parents would go nuts on just about every call.

7th inning, other team is home team, we are still up by 2 with 2 outs. They have runners on 2nd and 3rd. I forget how the play unfolded, but the runner from 3rd scored, but our team got the runner from 2nd in a pickle. I do remember that there was a possibility of there having been obstruciton, but the umpires called her out on the tag. Other teams coach comes out literally purple and screaming at the umps claiming just about every rule under the sun as to why his runner should have been safe. Umps confer and agree she is out, game over. Coaches on other team as well as parents go even more nuts. Umpires make the mistake of leaving the field through their side and at least 2 or 3 of the parents threw their drinks all over the umps. I heard later that the team was informed that the team and coaches would never be allowed to enter the tournament again.

and... once again, lets assume that it really was a college recruitment tournament; what coach would want a player from that team? None. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Why even vaguely consider a player who would play, practice, live with scum like that?

They are known by the company they keep. Equal players on a classy team will get the nod over the clown team/coach/parent team just about every time.

Batbusters get my vote. I saw their coach threaten the umpire in Fresno and ask him to meet in the parking lot. I wouldn't let my daughter play for this guy, I think his name is Jessica, Jessie, something like that. What a sissy.

I have been in this game since 1964 and things sure aren't what they used to be. Stuff like this never happened. Violence and verbal abuse has gotten so bad the last ten years, that I am starting to think that ASA (etc.) should adopt a no tolerance rule.

Anyone that is this out of control shouldn't even be behind the wheel of a car, let alone influencing a team of girls.

I suspect that adults that can't control themselves at a child's ball game are either drunk or on some other substance. It is more common than you think.

It has gotten a lot worse. One problem is a prevalent attitude of many umpires with the pressure of "keeping em in the game". It is not necessary to keep em in the game. I hope at some point ASA umpires stop getting taught this. Work with em, if that dont work.. Nip it in the bud and quick.. if that dont work, dump em.

Some umpires also need to stop escalating the problem. Some of these guys could learn a lot
from football officials when it comes to checking their ego and understand that
no one is there to see them.

No matter what sport it is, there are out of control people. I am a High School basketball ref. and while I was refing, 7 months pregnant, a player's dad came after me because he didn't like the call I made against his son's team. 6 adult men had to hold him back from hitting me. The police were called, charges were filed, he came to court with a lawyer and everything was dropped. I sure it cost him some $ to get out of that one but they are everywhere. You need to make sure your DD are safe and you put their best interest first.

and the coaching staff was STILL out of control!!

DD's team (CT Eliminators) beat them handily 10-0 which shut them up quickly!!!

I agree 100%. The way a umpire not only handles a specific situation.. but the entirety of the game, will be the deciding factor of how something gets handled and how that is received something goes awry.

The umpire I know with the most ejections this year IS a football official.. so I'm not sure that comparison is valid, but the point as to ego, or more correctly, how the masses perceive a umpire is well taken.
